It was my first time at BVR and I will recommend it most for families who want an upscale dining experience and couples out on a date. I went with two foodies who own their own restaurant, so they are the types that notice every single element about a restaurant - lighting, decor, noise level, heat of the dishes coming out, plating, timing, etc. And they were delighted with every element of our dining experience. Plates are substantial - you're not going away hungry. Wine list is very well-curated, great glass pours and good bottle choices up and down the price range; and the cocktail list is super interesting. Also - great for families. Lots of tables had young kids of different ages and it was a perfect mix of young and old, young couples and also families. Wasn't too noisy either, clearly they've work hard on that. Highlights - fried chicken, and order all the sides to share. Pork chop was big and lots of great mesquite-y smoky flavor. Beets with burrata, CRAB CAKES!

Class act place with a welcoming vibe. We go here for special occasions and they never disappoint. Cocktails are creative and delicious. Dinner was great and dessert knocked it out of the park.

Have really liked the restaurant at times. But this time, waiters were slow and weirdly haughty, and food not good. Yes, we asked main guy to pace our 3 dinners but we didn’t get entrees for more than two hours. Had to remind them, and when entrees arrived they were way overdone. $28 for 3 pieces of chicken that were rock-hard, worse than KFC, gnocchi very overcooked. Mixed drinks (Manhattans), $17 apiece, were in glasses the size of a large thimble (though they have always skimped on mixed drinks here). Dining room was, as always, very cool. But over all, a major and expensive disappointment.

We have been fans of BVR for years but this meal was the best one yet! The fried chicken was moist and perfectly seasoned, and I had thirds of the acorn squash. The cocktail menu is extensive with many hard to find, top shelf ingredients crafted to perfection. Can’t wait to go back!

Bull Valley Roadhouse and Port Costa are a step back in time but with just enough modern touches. The food and service are excellent and the decor and environment are historic and charming. I have been coming here for years and I’m happy to see the restaurant evolving and thriving. Well worth the drive.
