Ham Sandwich Tap Room takes pride of place in charming 17th century surroundings at rural retreat, The Blazing Donkey. Located just off the A258 between Deal & Sandwich, our dining room is a 4th year recipient of the coveted AA rosette award for culinary excellence. Our tap room is a unique collaboration with Eastry artisan brewer Time & Tide, whose award winning beers are carefully curated and complement a wonderful range of wines. Unfussy, clean & simple dishes prepared entirely from fresh local produce (cooked exceptionally well) is what you may expect. Our kitchen team source virtually all their ingredients locally, including seafood from Jenkins and Sons of Deal. Our vibe is relaxed; whether fireside dining in the Winter or alfresco terrace dining in the Summer, you are welcome the entire year round.

Beautiful venue, worth the long drive as it was recommended by family. Sat in a cozy area of the restaurant, drinks arrived promptly, decent wine list, plenty of choice. Amazing oozy scotch egg starter, really worked well with the chorizo. Local Hake with Asian flavours was seriously good, the other half being a veggie chose the leek & cheddar wellington, she loved it. No room for dessert, we were stuffed. Most enjoyable meal for a long time, not local but will definitely return and highly recommend

Great food, great atmosphere. Lovely staff and very helpful and polite and friendly. Would recommend for date night or just a friendly drinker. Also is a wedding venue with a big marquee.

10/10 Bravo, this is a hidden gem I highly recommend! On a rainy evening I wasn’t looking forward to leaving the house but I’m so glad I did. Beautiful building, the most amazing food and plenty of it, along with attentive and knowledgeable staff. I will be returning and I will be trying all of the beers this time. Thank you for a unique experience

Was a Saturday with a big wedding on so service was a bit all over the place and clearly overwhelmed. But the food was very nice (not as outstanding as we know it to be on a quieter night) and tasty and it is always beautiful in there.

We had been recomnended and our visit did not disappoint. Despite being very busy we enjoyed first class service. The food was at a level we had not expected; all dishes superbly presented. The monkfish starter and souffle were two stand out dishes... well done Chef Bruce!

We booked a table mid week myself and a friend, not knowing the restaurant we gave it a chance, what we didn't know was that we were up for a treat... When we arrived, the staff was very welcoming, and the fireplaces were warm to any heart. The atmosphere perfect we had another table next to us who seemed that we're enjoying themselves, so we thought that was a good sign. We order a couple glasses of pino blush and decided to go for the ham hock terrine follow by a sharing tomahawk medim rare and to finish a cheesecake and a Citrus lemos tart, and that was when the party began... My goodness couldn't fault the starter, a beautiful piece of art and flavours, then the steak, oh dear we thought we were in trouble there, as it was massive, but that was the most beautiful piece of steak we had in ages brilliantly cooked to perfection melted in our mouths we where stunned by it. We then had our dessert, and all I could say was where on earth would you eat such a tasty, velvety cheesecake. My friend kept saying that her taste buds were dancing when eating the lemon tart. All I can say is I am usually very fussy about my food, but I can tell this chef knows how to make magic on a plate, and the experience we had put some local michelan restaurants to shame. We will definitely come back more often, and we will bring friends with us because a gem like this shouldn't be hidden ... We definitely recommend...

Arrived 15mins early for a 14.00, asked if I would like a drink, replied “pint of beer, bitter beer please” the retort was we have zero alcohol Heineken ….. well that’s an option I declined. The other guests arrived on time, my sister, our nonagenarian mother and our octogenarian Godmother. We chose the salmon starter, delicious, for the mains two half chicken, one grain mustard and rosemary beef, (sadly lacking in evidence of a crust) and a pan fried salmon with a Crayfish sauce. The slices of beef were of a random size and thickened. The parsnips, very undercooked, carrots OK, potatoes OK, the horseradish sauce unremarkably mild and commercial. The pan fried Salomon the bed of creamed leeks was a masterpiece, lacking one small element, a method of absorbing the crayfish sauce, my sister ‘robbed’ a few potatoes from our mother. Sorted. The half chicken were delicious but totally overwhelming for two ladies with smaller dietary demands. Again similar issues with the vegetables. Two cheese boards, well populated with a delicious soft cheese and a tasty ‘blue’ and two profiteroles. This was the second Mother’s Day meal we’ve enjoyed here along with other meals, the front of house, appear to let down the dedicated efforts of the kitchen staff by some basic attention to detail and lack of menu knowledge.

This was an extremely disappointing evening for myself and my other half. The moment we walked in it was a worry no one in the restaurant and a lack of urgency to welcome us at the table. The most worrying and funniest night when the lady who was serving us offered me a pint of Merlot as wasn’t sure if you supplied Guinness. The starter was ok couldn’t fault it. The main meal was a real disappointment with no flavour and was sent back and when come back out had been re heated and still had no flavour so wasn’t eaten. Chips unfortunately were raw and sent back to be re done and had been chucked in a fat fryer come back saturated in oil. We ordered a baileys coffee and was told we are not sure how to make one but we will give it a try another real disappointment for a restaurant who advertise there quality in service and food. This is the first time we have been to this restaurant and unfortunately will be last. It’s a real shame as friends commented back in the day this was the place to go. Feed back would have been given on the night if anyone had bothered to ask how was your meal ? But in all honesty I think they knew with the standard of service and product you delivered maybe wasn’t a good idea to ask. The atmosphere in the restaurant was dull and we didn’t see anyone the whole time we was there and I find that baffling on a Friday evening.
