Blackfriars is located in a 13th century medieval friary where it once served as the refectory for the Dominican friars, making it one of the oldest purpose-built dining rooms in the UK.

The restaurant serves a classic, gutsy British menu sourcing seasonal produce from local farms and markets accompanied by a large award-winning wine list. It also has an adjoining 50-seat Banquet Hall for private parties and weddings and above the restaurant is a Cookery School and Wine/Beer/Whisky Tasting Room. Blackfriars has won a host of awards including The Taste of the North East winner in the North East Tourism Awards, Best Sunday Lunch in Newcastle by readers of the Independent, Best restaurant in the North East/Newcastle’ by readers of The Observer and Metro Newspaper.     We were given a lunch voucher for a present and we really enjoyed our visit. All three courses that we chose were delicious and the meal came with 2 glasses of fizzy. The restaurant has an interesting history and had a pleasant atmosphere.

    We did the red wine tasting, it was great, lots of history & interesting facts! Maybe couldv'e done with a few more snacks as we ended up quite tipsy haha! Thanks to the host for his great enthusiasm

    Food was average I feel like this restaurant is not as good as it used to be,chicken pie was horrid and tiny,very disappointed😔

    Beautiful and delicious food, with great atmosphere, warm and not noisy for the busy restaurant. All plates cleared, I would check with your server to advise on side dishes or it would be easy to over order. Thank you for a lovely evening

    A lovely evening , food was exceptional we had the smoked haddock soufflé which was one of the best things we have ever tasted . The mains were great beautifully cooked with excellent flavours the monkfish in particular . Service was attentive and friendly . One of the best restaurants in Newcastle

    Our Son chose this restaurant for lunch celebrating his 21st birthday. It was an excellent choice. Not just a stunningly beautiful building. The interior, the staff, food and service were all wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely hope to visit here again
