An exceptionally stylish supper club, civilized speakeasy, a sophisticated saloon. Each of these "personae" is housed in a soaring two-story interior distinguished by a gently curving mahogany bar, fluted columns with ornate capitals, stunning original art, plush banquettes, cozy booths, starched linens, glittering glasses, and polished flatware.
Overall, the ambiance is pure 1930's and 1940's - tasteful art moderne reminiscent of the glory days of Cunard and French Line ships. Fashionable and glamorous are the hallmarks. Trendy is simply not a part of the BIX culture.
The clientele at BIX ranges from San Francisco movers-and-shakers to "savvy travelers" - owner Doug Biederbeck's term for the many diners in the know from out of town who patronize his establishment.
All of them step from the featureless alley into another world - a world of superb cookery and libations, of sparkling service, of stylish nostalgia, of polished live jazz. That world is BIX.

    Our waiter was extremely rude. We showed up 15 minutes late due to the traffic. We called to say we would be late and asked if it was an issue. They said “no we will see you when you get here” Upon arriving right off the bat they said we needed to be out by an hour and a half. Waiter got our drinks wrong and was visibly annoyed that he needed to fix them. Visibly annoyed when we asked for a second round. Never had felt so unwelcome in a restaurant ever. Won’t be returning again which is a bummer bc the ambience is lovely.

    As always, spectacular. I loved the Christmas decor, made it so cozy and welcoming. Our waitress, Jackie, was very accommodating to my dietary restrictions. Great drinks. Have to get the potato pillows and deviled eggs. Can’t wait to go back.

    My husband and I go to Bix nearly every year for our anniversary, and it never disappoints. We love the deviled egg appetizer, the soups, and all the entrees we’ve tried. Last night the chocolate brioche bread pudding was the perfect way to end our evening.

    First time. Great experience, excellent customer service from the moment we walked in. Food was excellent. Ambience was very nice, lighting was soft, beautiful interior, and the music in the background was very nice. Overall noise level a bit loud, but still, what a great setting for a couples/date night setting. Not inexpensive if that's a factor. We will definitely be going back!

    The server took forever to take our order. Was super un attentive . Drinks were taken away before finished. Took forever to order more drinks. Waited a long time to hail someone down for another order. Overall sloppy unattentive server

    As usual, “ checked all of the boxes” Bix is the consummate special evening dinner out - up scale atmosphere and ambience, classic bar, epicurean delight,attentive service, live, cultural music … a great experience.
