Executive chef: Ralph Pausina

From the OpenTable editors: Antoine’s is the county’s oldest continuously operating restaurant and a special-occasion destination for its opulent setting and elegant, French-Creole fare. Sit in one of 14 gilded dining rooms to feast on favorites like oyster Rockefeller and soufflé potatoes, both original to the restaurant. Cap the meal with a classic baked Alaska or the house chicory coffee, laced with cognac and triple sec and flamed tableside—it’s New Orleans, after all.

With such a reputation, I would have expected the food to be better. Escargot was too salty, the oysters Rockefeller did not seem to have fresh spinach and the spinach was overcooked, the bisque and crab meat soups were good, the entrees Red Fish Almoldine was fried and the Pompano was mediocre. We will not go back.

Antoine’s has the appearance from outside as a quaint NOLA upscale eatery. Inside, however, it is enormous, seating hundreds. Think “industrial kitchen” food rather than anything better. I had the Revellion meal, which consisted of an acceptable bisque, a low-side of mediocre duck confit, and a crème brûlée that was both soupy and burnt at the same time, and inedible. They could not redo the brûlée for some reason, and substituted a moderately dry and uninteresting bread pudding. People might fare better ordering a la carte, but my one a la carte oyster dish was overseasoned. There’s so much other great food in New Orleans at this price point that diners should look elsewhere.

Where do I begin other than to say Wow! we had such an amazing experience. The food was outstanding. We tried all the different oysters. We had some soup we had some gumbo we had salad and best of all we had the baked Alaska. All were amazing! more than the food, I have to commend your server Chuck he was so amazing and made our experience extraordinary. He steered us in the right direction for food, while giving us a whole history lesson of Antoine’s from the beginning to the end of our meal with little snippets of history and he was probably one of the most charming waiters I have en counted in a very long time . He truly is an asset to your establishment❤️ There is a restaurant in Paris called La Tour D’Argent that I love that does the endearing post card with the number of the duck you ordered just like you do with the oysters! Love that, as well as the famous wine cellar! We so enjoyed the experience and cannot wait to come back on our next visit to NOLA!

Delicious dinner! We had the pompano fish with crabmeat and it was wonderful! For desert we ordered the bread pudding, chocolate tort, and baked Alaska. The bread pudding was the winner for us. Antoine’s is always a favorite and special experience. We will definitely go back!

Everything was great except that I noted on my reservation it was my daughter’s 21st birthday and we wanted to get her the baked Alaska. The menu states to order at the commencement of the meal. We did but were told that we had to order it earlier but they could give us individual portions. Not the same and a bit disappointed.

The place is beautiful, the food was perfect. We got the combo oysters platter, wonderful! My husband try their filet and I had lambs chops, amazing!!!!! For desert we try the famous baked alaskan, that was delicious. But nothing like the service by Daniel and Darla, they combined the excellence of the food with exquisite service.
