Located at 40 Brattle Street in Harvard Square, Alden & Harlow serves thoughtfully sourced, honest American food in a subterranean, modern and comfortable space. Replicating the style of cooking he does for family and friends in his home kitchen, Chef Michael Scelfo prepares humble, unpretentious food that honors tradition of place in its quality. On a weekend night Alden and Harlow can overwhelm with the noise, especially in the large back room. On a Monday night with a seat against the wall, the din was festive and not oppressive. As always, the food delighted in its sheer deliciousness and originality.

For the first time in a long time, our return to a restaurant we have eaten at and enjoyed in the past, was even better than the last time ! Dreamt about the focaccia last night !

I came here with a group of six for brunch. Though the experience is advertised as family style, we correctly guessed that some of the brunch dishes (like a sandwich!) would be hard to share, so we each got our own dish and then some plates to share (donuts, cinnamon bun). Expect staggered arrival times for your food. The food was served hot and delicious and the service was polite and friendly. I will definitely come here for brunch again.

The food was very good. The waitress guided us through the menu wonderfully. I would ask that the music be turned down a lot. It was very hard to hear each other. But that's an easy fix.

My husband and I had such a lovely time celebrating our 11th anniversary at Alden and Harlow. Our server was great and we were so delighted when he brought champagne, it made it a super special night out. The atmosphere was really nice, there was a feeling of good energy (but not too loud). I loved the roasted Brussels sprouts (done with a tasty different flair than what I usually expect) and we loved the corn pancakes! They were so fun with popcorn and also delicious. My husband was still talking about the bluefin dish later. We so appreciated the excellent hospitality and really enjoyed our experience. Perfect place to go right before a show at the Sinclair.

I can’t even begin to describe how wonderful this meal was! Each plate was exquisitely made with unique combinations that were like nothing I have ever had. It was very busy so the service was a little slow but we were not in a rush so it was fine.

Plant dividers between tables that seat 8 to create 2 x 4 seats don't work. Create situation where you are competing with the group of 4 next to you to have a bit more space by moving the planter which frankly is on the ugly side. Noise level way to high. The cost for what one gets (e.g., three little pancakes for a group four on top of a plate of popcorn!), so we wont be back.

Lovely experience. Staff was nice and attentive. Would prefer they served more coffee options such as espresso/cappuccinos/lattes. As of my visit they only had regular coffee available with a side of cold milk.

Unique delicious elevated pub food, served in sharing/tapas sizes. Healthy and fried options to suit everyone. Not too loud or crowded. A little pricey compared to pub food, but affordable compared to nearby elevated dining. $110 for two people (four dishes, one dessert, one beer). Definitely worth it for the right occasion.
