A16 is a Michelin rated and James Beard Award Winning restaurant bringing the delicious and hospitable traditions of lively Campania to San Francisco. The chic, rustic/modernist venue is named after the motorway that transverses the South of Italy. Executive Chef Yosuke Machida carefully selects local, organic produce and meats to prepare a daily menu specializing in wood oven-fired Neapolitan pizza, braised meatballs, vibrant salads, pasta and local meats and seafood dishes. Owner Shelley Lindgren works closely with a well-versed, hospitable service team to bring one of the SF Bay Area's celebrated wine and food destinations.

    Our pizza was undercooked and was raw dough. The pasta was unbelievably bland. Was really looking forward to this place off the reviews but was honestly extremely disappointing.

    A16, is one of my favorites!! And love sitting as the chiefs counter to see all the action. Our waiter was fine and on top of serving us our beverages. We had come in for the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Our concern and why i didn’t give the highest marks was we waited about 35-40 for the first course to come!! And the first course was a bit disappointing. After that other courses followed but did seem to have delays. Wine pairing came before the courses. The food was delicious and after course one we weren’t disappointed. I’m sure being Christmas Eve and a busy night added to the delays….

    I ordered meatballs, the gnocchi, and a spicy soprasetta pizza to go. The meatballs were average in taste, but cooked well. The gnocchi started off amazing but the excessive Parmesan eventually ruined the dish and overall taste for me. The pizza was the best by far.

    We very much enjoyed our lunch at A16. The food was solid (we especially enjoyed the kale salad), and the service was attentive but not intrusive. The music was at the right volume, and it had a nice festive atmosphere for the holidays. Thank you for a lovely holiday lunch.

    Waiter was a complete jerk. Claimed to be a Sommelier, more apparently was a used car salesman. Knew nothing about the food. Spent the entire time trying to up-sale every selection we inquired about. Lied about share proportions, etc. Assumed we knew nothing about truffles. Fyi Mr. Salesman.. I travel to Italy EVERY year. I truffle hunt. I grow olives and I know wine! Keep your assumptions under wraps. Very poor business practice. Manager was great. I was too annoyed to want to spend another second in the restaurant, but the Manager did try to fix the situation. Great restaurant, been there numerous times and will return.
