Drinks were bad. Food was good not great. Server was great. Prices are high, but I’m sympathetic as bringing high quality dining to such a remote part of Texas is likely a logistical nightmare. All in all good experience.

The staff are all, without exception, wonderful. The food is good, but there are (always) issues with how it's served. Just as one example, for the dishes that include mashed potatoes -- the potatoes are *always* room temp. Multiple days, multiple diners -- always room temp. Once, one of our party mentioned that and the servers said they'd replace the potatoes. A few minutes later... another plate of room-temp mashed potatoes. Clearly, there's some kind of quality control problem in the kitchen. As another example, one night I requested that my steak be cooked to "a bit more than medium rare". Knowing that that might be a bit too precise, I would've been content with medium rare. Then my steak came out well below "rare". More or less what the French call "au bleu", which is basically uncooked except for the outer sear. Obviously, precision in steak cooking is elusive, but the difference between almost medium and almost raw isn't all that elusive. Neither is the difference between warm/hot mashed potatoes and room-temp mashed potatoes. I've been dining at the Gage from the very first days of its very first, tiny dining room, (Late 80s? Early 90s?) I'll dine there again for years to come. That's why I've commented here. Please work on your consistency and quality. We all strongly want you to be better and to continue.

Beautifully designed dinner space inside and out with great ambiance, service, food and drinks to go perfectly along with the vibe of The Gage Hotel. The Prickly Pear margarita is the restaurant’s “special” for a reason and the Bread pudding didn’t disappoint! Ask for Jamie!

The service was good but a bite inconsistent. The server was very nice and pleasant but would disappear often. The food was okay, the quality was good. However, for such a beautiful and historic hotel, the restaurant was not in the same level.

Got there a little early for a couple drinks but the bar was swamped, they sat us early so no problem! I had sushi as an appetizer (excellent), swordfish for dinner also excellent! My husband had the filet he said was cooked perfectly, staff was super attentive, guess not a thing to complain about except we over indulged with the bourbon bread pudding, could barely walk!

Outstanding service & food every time we’ve been here. Ambiance is wonderful. We now try to stay at the Gage & eat at 12 Gage any time we’re in West Texas.
