The Hemingway is a good quality pub that serves delicious no-nonsense grub. You can see every dish being made to order in our open plan kitchen- no soggy microwaved frozen meals here! We take great care in sourcing our produce direct from the best suppliers both locally and abroad. Our menu is a mix of classic crowd pleasers and regularly changing seasonal dishes, which means you'll always find something to tempt your taste buds (even if you're in every day!).We are a pub, not a cocktail bar and while we make a blinding Bloody Mary, and will happily mix you an Aperol Spritz or Negroni, we don't do Pina Coladas. That said, we are extremely proud of our wide range of spirits from around the globe, which (where possible) we offer at affordable prices. The wine list has been chosen to provide a simple but high quality selection that goes as well with our food as it does with some good company.

Booked for Sunday roast with family, four of us for 4pm. The noise level was extreme, chatting, crashing plates at counter behind us and busy jazz instrumental music from above us. This experience was then made worse, by the service although polite, it took around 10-15minutes to get a drink order taken. The 4 to 5 staff made no eye contact with any of us. Yet served the table next to us, whom had all sat down after us. They bring our drinks, take our food order and fifty minutes in, the waiter came to our table to say they were all out of Roast Pork so I ordered the Roast Lamb instead. Roast Lamb was dreadful, I had to spit out the first two mouthfuls as the chewiness as well as the gristle were making me gag. Even my other half who had the lamb made a remark and he never complains about food, ever. Yes lamb can be on the pink side, this I don't mind. However, rump needed slow cooking imo. I cut away a small sliver about 1cm, from the edge of one slice and it was okay however the majority of the lamb was full of unrendered fat and lots of gristle, making it, impossible to enjoy. The roast potatoes had hard outer...no not crispy, just hard making them almost impenetrable and each plate had varying vegetables, only one plate had kale, I had one piece of carrot and a spoonful of red cabbage. The gravy was scarce, too. I was so disappointed but luckily our two relatives had chicken which they enjoyed. It did not feel like a scrumptious Sunday roast, more like you'd popped in last minute and had been given whatever was left over.

Had an outstanding experience last night for my son’s 18th; outstanding food and personal service, it’s a shame we aren’t often in Shoreditch because this place is a gem Scallops were a must, also the duck and the scotch eggs. Pork and steak were perfect too. We had a lot of the menu and nothing let us down.
