La Matera refers to the container in which Mate is consumed. Actually, "La Matera" doesn't mean this, but we created this name referring to it. In Argentina, we call Mate both the infusion made from its leaves (caffeinated herbal beverage) and the container in which it is consumed, with the most common one being the gourd, although there are many different models made from various materials.
