- JJackPhiladelphia County •2 reviews5.0Dined 2 days agoWe had a wonderful evening at River Twice. From the warm, friendly greetings by the hostess and the wait staff, to the food itself, this all made for an excellent dinner in one of Philly's most interesting neighborhoods. The meal itself was a great value, with four noteworthy- and interesting- small courses including a terrific dessert. I also recommend the wine pairing.More infoRiver TwicePrice: Very Expensive• American• South Philly•4.8
- LLinhPhiladelphia County •5 reviews4.0Dined 2 days agoThe service was amazing. All the severs were very attentive. The octopus was nice a charred but it was a bit on the salty side. The beef carpaccio was a bit too sour problem too much lemon juice. The squid ink rigatoni was very flavorful and we also really enjoyed the bread it was nice and chewy and the sun dried tomatoes dip was the bread was also really good.More infoBucatini CaffePrice: Moderate• Italian• East Passyunk Avenue•4.9
- MMichaelPhiladelphia County •10 reviews5.0Dined 2 days agoWow! This was an awesome experience! As a fan of the Rocky film series, I knew about this place from the Rocky Balboa and Creed films. It is so much more than that, though. As the founder was a major player in early 20th century opera recordings, The Victor Cafe has an opera theme permeating its soul. The walls are adorned with photos of the opera greats, opera music plays softly in the background, and, most importantly, the waitstaff are all classically-trained opera performers. Every half hour or so, they gather everyone’s attention to perform a selection from a popular opera, complete with a synopsis of the story they’re about to tell through their performance. Every performer was wonderful and this made for a unique, joyful and memorable experience for my family. I grew up on Italian cuisine, and this was among the best I’ve had in a long time. We shared the Calamari Fritti, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that we could have substituted Smelts for the calamari. This was a staple of our Christmas Eve dinners when I was young. My Veal Saltimbocca was perfect, as was my Daughter’s Prince Igor (penne with a vodka blush, salmon, tomato, and Asparagus). We enjoyed our cannolis while watching our last performance of the evening. Breathtaking! Special shout out to our server, Brenna, who took our dessert order mere seconds after completing her duet! Remarkable! I can’t say enough about The Victor Cafe; if you’re looking for a classic South Philly Italian Restaurant, paired with one of the most wonderful and unique experiences you’ll find today, then this is the place for you.More infoThe Victor Cafe - PhiladelphiaPrice: Moderate• Italian• South Philly•4.9

12 of Philadelphia’s outstanding spots for celebrating special occasions
Maybe you got engaged on the steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art or just picked up the keys to your first rowhouse. It could be that your kid is (finally) toilet trained, or that your noisy neighbor moved away. Sometimes, simply surviving another Tuesday can be an occasion to celebrate over a restaurant meal. Luckily, Philadelphia bursts with places where the food and atmosphere lend themselves to living it up. Grab dinner and a jazz show at a swinging North Broad Street faithful. Opt for a quieter night at a critically acclaimed, plant-based gem in Midtown Village. Or splurge on a swanky steakhouse that presides over a corner of Rittenhouse Park. Whether you’re after an intimate spot for an anniversary date or a convivial atmosphere for a boisterous reunion, Philadelphia has you covered with these 12 celebration-worthy restaurants.

Discover South Philly
South Philadelphia is a bustling, diverse neighborhood that reflects the best of what the city has to offer, and its food is no exception. Many of the city’s most iconic foods can trace their roots here. Of course, no visit to Philly is complete without a classic cheesesteak, invented in this part of town by Pat Olivieri in 1930. In fact, Italian-Americans living in South Philadelphia have been a driving force behind the city’s food culture, popularizing favorites like pizza and water ice. You can visit the Italian Market area for a sampling of some of the city’s specialty foods from quality meats and produce to baked goods and gelato. If Vietnamese food is what you’re after, this neighborhood is also home to plenty of authentic dishes like pho and banh mi.
