Opened in 1980, La Ripaille is one of the oldest restaurants in West Village. Some of the regulars have been coming for as long as 25 years. We want everyone to feel welcome here, whether it’s the celebrities who frequent, the children for whom we provide games & crayons, or the people who live in the Village.
The owner, Alain Laurent, is integral in the day-to-day processes of La Ripaille. He daily scours the market for the freshest produce, often choosing the day’s specials based on his finds. This keeps the specials seasonal & unique. He decorates the ever changing wine list with the best wines available. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a terrace for the summer & a fireplace in the back for the winter. One if by Land, Two if by Sea has been recognized for its classic menu, long history, and beautiful decor. It is often cited as the most romantic restaurant in New York City. The decor features candlelit tables, brick fireplaces, a baby grand piano and a private garden.
The restaurant operates inside a historic, land-marked carriage house built in 1767.
Established in 1973, One if by Land, Two if by Sea soon became the go to spot in NYC for engagements, anniversaries, weddings and just a night out for quiet dinner.
DRESS CODE
We kindly ask our guests to abide by the dress code of the restaurant.
No Excessively revealing clothing, Athletic wear, beachwear, tank tops, t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, casual shorts, Hats, flip flops and party accessories (including crowns, sashes & other paraphernalia)
To cancel a reservation; it will require at least 48 hours prior to the day of the reservation. Less than 48 hours will result in the full per person price of the dinner.

Knickerbocker is known for its great Jazz and its 28 oz. T- Bone Steaks and is a favorite among many celebrities including F. Murray Abraham, Chris Noth and Alec Baldwin. Racheal Ray listed us in her "NYC Favorites" and has praised our Shrimp Cocktail, Creamed Spinach, and of course our T- Bone Steaks.
The word "Knickerbocker" itself, says "New York". Upon entering, you’ll know you're in the Village. Its wood paneled walls sport rare turn of the century posters and original caricatures by Al Hirschfeld. Large leather booths line the walls and brass rails accent the 100 year old marble bar, where Charles Lindbergh signed his Trans Atlantic contract.
We have survived the times by using the freshest ingredients from local markets, and offering good solid value and quality.

    Truffle linguini was so fresh with just the right amount of truffle. Spaghetti carbonara with pork and the egg on top was a hit at my table. Pappardelle was a good hardy bowl of pasta and roasted lamb. The capri pizza with a Caesar salad was a perfect appetizer for the table. Priced reasonably for the city, this place is definitely worth several visits.

    We had a great dinner! The ambiance was so amazing - it was like Christmas exploded in there! The real tree in the middle of the dining room was spectacular. We had the steak tar tar as an app - delish! We got the boucherie and wagu burgers, also amazing Overall, a great experience and place to eat!

    Food was great and wine recommendations from sommelier were excellent. In the beginning things seemed very rushed. Our Negronis were served and within 5 minutes the first course arrived. We asked the wait staff to slow things down which they did and it made the evening more enjoyable.
