Upstate Craft Beer & Oyster Bar

Upstate Craft Beer & Oyster Bar puts what it does right in its name. This is a place custom designed for fans of local small-batch brews and a well-stocked raw bar. The inside of the restaurant is as cozy and comfortable as one would expect, as it is a relaxed atmosphere similar to a sports bar in the off-season. One of the keys to Upstate's success is its commitment to freshness. So much so that there isn't even a freezer in the building as everything is brought in fresh daily.Obviously, the oysters and clams are what most patrons come for, and Upstate's selection of west and east coast varieties changes every day, depending on what is available. That's certainly not the only thing on the menu, though. Guests can try out shared plates of house cured salmon, crab cakes, squid salad and even sea urchin.

This is the story of Paolo and Matteo, two guys from Milano who had an idea. Let's take the heart of our tradition and fuse it with the exciting innovations happening in Italian cooking, they said. Inspired by the Roman deity Janus who looked to the future as well as the past, Giano respects tradition and embraces the future. Lavagna opened its doors on February 1st 1999.The restaurant offers casual Italian trattoria fare at moderate prices. The vibe is candlelit, cozy, with an old wood burning oven, exposed brick walls, a pressed tin ceiling and a small wine bar where one can dine also. A wall of French doors swing open in the warmer weather to a seasonal sidewalk cafe of 20 seats.
The kitchen concept is to create dishes traditionally Italian, emphasizing fresh, seasonal ingredients and product of the highest quality.
The menu highlights include homemade pastas, a wood oven roasted fish for two, roast pork chop, baby rack of lamb and of course the rigatoni with sweet and spicy sausage that has become a classic over the years.
The wine list has been a yearly recipient of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2002 and it focuses on hard to find wines from regional Italy along with other international selections.

Great atmosphere, service, and of course, food! We had the Tom Yum seafood hotpot and the Karee Pu Noodles (curry crab noodles) and both were delicious. Can be hard getting a reservation (though luckily a 12:30 PM one opened up for us) so definitely reserve a spot in advance!

Both our pastas (truffle ragu rigatoni and tagliatelle with mushroom) were absolutely outstanding and the tiramisu was one of the best I’ve ever had! They also served bread with olive oil that went with the meal perfectly.

This was truly one of the best meals ever! The food was outstanding; the Crispy Rice and Lychee Martinis are a must. Service was incredible. Vibes were high. Highly recommend!
