Manicomio Chelsea opened its doors in 2003. It is set on the buzzy Duke of York Square, set back from Sloane Square and the iconic Kings Road. Housed in a historic Grade II listed building that was formerly the Royal military asylum- the origin of Manicomio’s playful name (Italian for madhouse).

Renowned for serving simple yet elegant Italian food in the attractive dining room, bar and – weather permitting- the expansive terrace. The adjoining Manicomio Café offers a pared-down version of the restaurant’s menu- available to enjoy in either the café, conservatory, courtyard or terrace or as take away.

Manicomio’s enthusiastic passion for all things Italy- with a strong focus on provenance, quality and taste - has seen the Manicomio family grow to two more successful sites, each with their own identity- Manicomio in St Pauls and Canto Corvino in Spitalfields.

Delightful Italian food in a convivial atmosphere. Good menu with traditional choices - daily menu of 2 or 3 courses especially appreciated with very enjoyable choices. Burrata with speck and then monkfish was excellent. Friendly and helpful efficient staff. Thanks for a nice lunch!!

This is lovely healthy food, well balanced selection of flavours Note, I was surprised how tasteless the side of tomatoes was and how few of them, plus the garnish of basil was insignificant. The fish was executed perfectly although could have been served hotter. The panacotta was good but could have done with slightly more freshness and flavour.

The service was appalling .. we were only two but it took at least 3/4 an hour to even be asked if we wanted to order …we arrive at 7.45. I have often been to Manicomio but this was the worst . Food ok but nothing great ..

Enjoyed a lovely supper on the hottest day of the year. Although I had reserved a table inside (to escape from the heat), when I arrived I was told that they were not seating anyone indoors. I however very quickly got over my disappointment and was ultimately glad to have sat outside on such a nice evening. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was its usual high quality.
