There's nothing more satisfying than a juicy burger, and London has some of the meatiest offerings in Britain. From gastropubs to fine dining establishments, burgers grace countless menus in the capital. But where are the smartest, savviest diners eating out? Welcome to our Tastemakers List. We’ve pulled data from thousands of restaurants to find the top spots among OpenTable's most expert, seasoned diners. The quest for the best burger in London has led our diners to refined steakhouses in the most high-end hotels in Mayfair. They’ve sat on the banks of the River Thames with stunning waterfront views. They’ve relaxed in hidden, walled courtyards in Spitalfields. Follow their lead and score a table; we wish we could join you.

About the restaurant
When staying in a high-end hotel, diners expect a certain level of quality from the in-house restaurants. JW in the Marriot Hotel at Grosvenor House definitely delivers this. The stately interior is warm in wood tones with huge chalkboards explaining the menu, while the outdoor terrace allows views right across into Hyde Park. Thanks to the patio heaters, diners can enjoy the view even when the weather is cooler. Burger lovers, take a look at the lunch menu, which includes the JW burger topped with crispy bacon and melting monterey jack cheese.

Service was great. Every server and manager asked if we needed anything every time they went by without being intrusive.

About the restaurant
It may surprise readers to know that the best burger in London is at a South African restaurant founded by the owners of a famous wine estate. That’s according to diners at High Timber, a riverside restaurant filled with artwork from the country of inspiration. High Timber is the only restaurant in London with tables right on the River Thames, so the views here are genuinely exclusive. The Jo’ Burger is light, cooked to perfection, and served with bacon, cheese, and a sumptuous sauce. Pair your meat with a fine wine from a choice of over 40,000 bottles.

About the restaurant
Right in the heart of the city, Hawksmoor Guildhall has an interesting history linked to Queen Anne and a host of other regal characters. Smooth, leather chairs and dark wood give the dining area a rich and upper-class feel, while the menu offers delights for carnivores everywhere. Burger fans, head to the bar where our diners have discovered the best burger in London: The Hawksmoor Hamburger. The secret ingredient? Tiny nuggets of bone marrow mixed in with the beef.

About the restaurant
Why do diners consistently go to steakhouses to find the best burgers? Because steak-joints know what they’re doing when it comes to beef. There are many branches of Gaucho in London, keeping meat-lovers happy all across the city. The Hampstead venue aims to be more of a neighborhood restaurant than some of the inner-city versions. Hampstead’s "urban village" vibe runs through the aesthetic at this Gaucho, with a small restaurant front opening up into a larger, welcoming space. The burger? The best cuts of beef, served with bacon, onions, and more. Beloved by regulars.

The steaks were delicious and cooked to perfection! Side dishes also tasty. A great choice of wine from South America always go down well with the fabulous menu. Thank you.

About the restaurant
Although this branch of Hawksmoor has an opulent and indulgent restaurant that wows critics, burger fans need to head downstairs. The basement bar with its unusual history has an award-winning team serving some of the best cocktails in the city. The bar menu also includes a range of burgers and sides, including the short rib French dip burger, which comes with extra gravy for dipping. Diners have said this was the best burger they had ever eaten, anywhere.

About the restaurant
Gordon Ramsay’s first Maze restaurant sits in the iconic area of Mayfair, close to the beautifully maintained Grosvenor Square. Look up to see the quirky patterned ceiling, then sit in one of the curved green booths or long red benches and enjoy some great service. Kids are welcome, with the Tilly’s Treats menu, crafted by Matilda Ramsay herself, going down a storm. The rib burger here is a favorite that keeps diners coming back again and again.

About the restaurant
Covent Garden locals love this branch of Hawksmoor. Unusually, the full restaurant menu is available in the bar, meaning diners can enjoy the top-end dishes in a more casual and relaxed environment. The burgers are a big hit with guests, with the Hawksmoor burger appearing in positive comments repeatedly. This restaurant takes National Burger Day very seriously, so that’s one to mark in the calendar.

About the restaurant
This restaurant lies in a converted historic warehouse between Finsbury Circus and Spitalfields. Billed as a British grill, New Street prides itself on regional produce and an extensive wine list. In warmer weather, diners go to enjoy the walled courtyard which gives the illusion of privacy, even in the heart of the city. The homemade burgers are "like no other burgers ever tasted" according to one reviewer. A relaxed and elegant place to enjoy dinner in London.

Had an enjoyable dinner with 2 friends: service was excellent, enjoyed cocktails. The only reason for 4* is that the burgers that two of us ordered were served rather cold while our other friend’s food (chicken Kiev) was served hot.

Marylebone
About the restaurant
Marylebone is a shoppers’ paradise with plenty to see, including some of London’s top restaurants. Boxcar fits right in, with its farm-to-fork ethos and community vibe. The décor is bright and pleasant, bringing to mind the themes of a traditional English cottage. The butcher’s shop sells grass-fed meat, which is also utilized in their carefully crafted menu. The burgers here include a 45-day dry aged beef affair, served with beetroot relish and optional beer and treacle bacon. Or the veggie option with portobello mushroom and black beans, which diners call excellent.

About the restaurant
Refined and sophisticated, the neighborhood of Belgravia has a sense of aristocracy about it. The Jones Family kitchen is a delightful contrast to this, with its relaxed yet quirky décor and bright outdoor space. The team is careful to source all ingredients ethically, creating a menu containing temptations such as the chuck steak burger topped with slow-cooked oxtail and oxtail mayo, guaranteed to make any carnivore's mouth water.
