Maybe you got engaged on the steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art or just picked up the keys to your first rowhouse apartment. It could be that your kid is (finally) potty trained, or that your noisy neighbor moved away. Whatever the special occasion, Philadelphia has you covered. Read on for a guide to the city’s top 10 celebration-worthy restaurants to book now.

Washington Square
About the restaurant

At Talula’s, you’re in for a locally accented celebration—most of the restaurant’s dishes are made with seasonal ingredients from nearby farms. A table in its namesake garden, decked with plants and twinkling light, is one of the prettiest green spaces in town—and the place to be for a special occasion. Start a big night with one of the ever-changing cheese boards, a passion project of co-owner Aimee Olexy. What’s on them shifts with the season, but you can always expect six standout kinds, candied nuts, housemade jam, and a little lesson plan with fun cheese facts.

10/10 experience. Excellent food, service, and ambiance. They went above and beyond making our dining experience special for our anniversary. We will absolutely be back and highly recommend others to dine there!

About the restaurant

Estia is one of Philadelphia’s essential Greek restaurants, adored for its many shareable gems and group-friendly vibes. Grab a crew and celebrate just about any occasion over pitch-perfect takes on spanakopita and moussaka—or go for charcoal-grilled fish. A celebration isn’t complete without drinks, and Estia’s extensive wine list rises to the occasion, stocked with more than 300 bottles from Greece, Europe, Israel, and Lebanon.

Love it. The theater menu is the best. Our annual spot each year before going to enjoy The Nutcracker next door.

About the restaurant

Iron Chef Jose Garces’s first restaurant is a deep dive into Andalusian cuisine. Savvy Philadelphians know that it’s also the site of one of the happiest hours in town, complete with discounted tapas and solid housemade sangrias. For heartier appetites, there’s paella and suckling pig. Pro-tip: beat the Monday blues by landing here on Sunday evenings when it’s all about half-priced wine bottles and a special selection of small plates.

Center City
About the restaurant

Jean-Georges’s Comcast Technology Center setting means sweeping, proposal-worthy views. To that, add one of the most inventive menus in town, and it’s an obvious candidate for a special-occasion meal. Diners can take the land or sea route when it comes to the tasting menu—both feature Jean-Georges’s MVPs like egg toast with caviar and yellowfin tuna noodles, plus ever-changing seasonal dishes (a vegetarian tasting menu is also available). Reservations disappear quickly, so book well in advance if you want to celebrate something special in the sky.

We celebrated my Husband's Birthday with a Tasting Menu Dinner. Everything went perfectly. Cocktails were first rate including his Vesper. Each course was a culinary delight and the desserts at the end of the meal blew us away. We were so full by the end. The views of the city at night are magnificent. The multiple servers were friendly, efficient and courteous. For special occasions, this is the place to be.

About the restaurant

It takes something special for any restaurant to thrive for decades, and Old City’s Fork has that X factor in spades. James Beard Award-winning restaurateur Ellen Yin’s restaurant marked its 25th anniversary in 2022 and has evolved with the neighborhood around it. Thanks to expert service and an elegant setting—art, plants, and chandeliers—Fork is a place equipped for birthdays, anniversaries, going away gatherings, and any other moment you want to etch into your memory. Celebrate with Fork’s sensational seasonal mid-Atlantic menu made up of oysters, housemade charcuterie, and dry-aged, grass-fed ribeye.

Steakhouse
Rittenhouse Square
About the restaurant

Nothing says big night out like a swanky steakhouse. Barclay Prime is the place to sip a manhattan and sink your teeth into some of the best beef in Philadelphia. The sage and blue dining room has cool marble tabletops and walls lined with bookcases for a handsome library-like vibe. But you’re here for the world-class steakhouse fare, which starts with caviar and blinis or an iconic wedge salad with bacon and bleu cheese. Then get ready for one of 12 steak options, including American and Japanese wagyu, and go big on nostalgic sides.

This is by far the best steakhouse in Philadelphia. I have been coming here for almost 20 years and it’s been outstanding every time. Tonight was no exception.

About the restaurant

After a 2022 reno that transformed this Old City standby, Positano Coast feels more festive than ever. The combination of bold colors, warm woodwork, and Italianate art instantly activates vacation vibes, and the classic Italian plates are perfect for celebrating. For something appropriately luxe, go all-in with Aldo’s seafood combo or coastal pastas like sea urchin linguine with crab and black squid ink. Toast to whatever you’re celebrating with bubbles, like in The Process, a cocktail made of vodka, hibiscus, elderflower liqueur, and prosecco.

About the restaurant

Vedge was made for exclusively plant-based celebrations—an approach that’s earned the restaurant all sorts of cred, including James Beard Award nominations for chef/owners Richard Landau and Kate Jacoby. Its cushy brownstone setting and candlelit interiors make it especially great for an anniversary or an extra-special date. But the genius vegetable-centric dishes remain its biggest attractions. Natural wine fans will love toasting with Vedge’s many unique skin contact options.
