Welcome to l'espérance, a traditional French restaurant with up to 65 covers. All our dishes are prepared on the premises using produce delivered fresh every day. We add a daily specials menu which is chosen to complement our à la carte menu. We offer a range of traditional French dishes with a modern style. Each day a selection of specials is available as indicated on the blackboard in the restaurant. We have an interesting wine selection to offer our diners mostly from the vineyards across France with a few offerings from Europe and and the New World.

I have no idea how this restaurant is, as it was shut for refurbishment when we arrived at our allotted and confirmed dining time.

Having read the reviews I decided to book L'Esperance for a midweek catch-up with a friend I don't get to see too often. Got there & it was completely shut! Why was I allowed to book? Very unfair! Esp when both of us had to travel out of our way for nothing.

This is a great local restaurant with a fine selection of french dishes on offer and great wine as well. The service is very friendly and it is a beautiful old building with a fine interior that creates a great relaxed atmosphere.

having been to L'Esperance a few weeks ago for Sunday lunch we decided to return to test out the evening menu. The ambience, staff and food were wonderful. Suffice it to say we are booking again!

The place was empty which we thought a bad sign, but surprising as the menu looked good and the restaurant was in an interesting building, was comfortable and with character. The staff were lovely and we really enjoyed our meal - what a surprise as we did wonder why so few customers. Sometimes it is full, apparently, so best to book. I won't tell you about the history of the building, ask for yourself when you visit and be in for a surprise. If you are in this are, try it as the presentation, quality and ambience are really good.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal at L'esperance. The service was friendly but not intrusive. Every mouthful of the food was delicious, it was well-cooked and beautifully presented, from the amuse-bouche to the dessert. The wine was excellent and affordable. The restaurant was very quiet, but we were dining early (at 6.30 pm), and we did not find this a problem. We just can't believe that we had not heard of the restaurant in the four years we have been living in the area. If you live nearby, we recommend a visit.

Had a beautiful evening at this slightly out of the way French restaurant, which is in the building that was the first Waitrose - it is historic and pretty. Service was delightlful, thanks to the amazing Claude, and there was live guitar music, which was gorgeous. The meat-eaters did well and the fish also was also pronounced excellent. Veggies however are not well catered for and it is clear the chef did not understand that veggies are foodies too and that it is possible to cook fabuluous veggie food - the single veggie main of roasted vegetable tagliatelle was downright boring and I could have cooked something ten times better. Neverthless, we would go back, as it is a treasure of a place.

Very nice restaurant. Lovely food, lovely menu and very attentive staff. Went on a week night, so it was pretty quiet and the ambience lacking, but I can imagine at the weekend it is buzzing. Very nicely decroated. Definitely returning for more!

Given L'Esperance is in the suburb of Surbiton it was a surprise that it provided seven of us with a good mains courses and delicious sticky puddngs, all efficiently served. We all had the set lunch meal which was under £10 a head for two courses which was very reasonable. The service was very good. The only sadness was that we were the only people in the restaurant so it lacked buzz even though its decor had some style.

This place is a hidden gem in the area. It is very nice inside and decoration is very well done. The food was superb with great service. I would return again.
