Nestled in a residential neighborhood on Mission Street, three blocks north of Ocean Avenue lies a slice of “Old Carmel”. Originally founded in 1958 by Yvan Nopert and his family, Chef – Owner Kericos Loutas carries on the traditions of superb Country French Cuisine and personalized friendly service. A local favorite for casual fine dining in a romantic atmosphere, L’Escargot offers visitors an alternative to the “tourist experience”. The menu changes frequently, as do the specials. A three-course prix fixed Bistro Menu is offered nightly.

                                First the service by the whole team was remarkable. Sean was spectacular. Very warm and welcoming as always. The food is flawless, wonderful, dependable every time I visit. This is the only restaurant I bring visiting friends and family. Such a perfect environment to have a conversation not overrun by load music and loud people. The true compliment is everyone I introduce to this fabulous place recommend it to their friends and become regulars. This is a gem in Carmel.

                                I have been a fan of this restaurant for many many years. Everytime i go I wonder why I go anywhere else. The food is wonderful super fresh and the menu changes frequently

                                My husband and I were looking for a place nearby and chose L’Escargot-Carmel because they had escargot. My husband had escargot and the cassoulet and I had the special Beef Wellington. They also had warm bread with sweet butter that was delicious. Our server was friendly, personable, knowledgeable, and attentive. Our food was delicious and very filling. We would return if in the area in the future.

                                Enjoyed the onion soup, mixed green salad and complimentary warm bread and shared the Steak/Frites cooked to perfection. Our waiter Sean was excellent. P.S. the Ketel One martini was also great!

                                Helpful, kind,patient service. Food was excellent, the tart was very flavorable and we will be back just for that. The menu selection has enough variety to handle everyone’s preference and the specials were varied as well. Good wine selection, even by the glass. We will be back
