Great holiday decor. Loved the tea flavors. Sandwiches are small. Left feeling hungry. Clotted cream was whipped cream. Should have at least one more sandwich or a small salad. Desserts could be better.

I booked high tea here for a holiday treat for myself and two team members. ($600 for 3 of us) I was disappointed by several things about the experience. The noise level in the room, how long it took to get our food, and the value for the experience. I've done high tea at a few other places in the city, and enjoyed it much more for a similar if not lower cost.

After decades of wanting to go, my mom and I finally made the splurge and booked a reservation for Christmas Tea. I wish I had read reviews and saved us the money because throughout the entire 400 dollar experience (with tip), I felt myself slowly getting robbed. The tea was lukewarm, I’m pretty sure the Devonshire cream was just whipped butter because in no world could that be compared to clotted cream, the scones were bland (but nice texture). And the sandwiches! Oh my god. I’ve had better airplane food. Either bland or dry, each sandwich was more disappointing than the last. Each was about the size (or smaller) of a ping pong ball. Obviously we ate them all because we realized this was it and we were going to be out $400. As for the dessert, frankly, the stuff they sell in the Safeway bakery is miles better than whatever it is they served at the Fairmont. Having come from having afternoon tea at a London hotel of what I thought was a similar caliber to the Fairmont, I was baffled at the experience. And of course, SF isnt London, yadda yada - I get it. It was wrong for me to expect a similar experience. I just cant believe this is on so many “lists” of can’t miss SF winter experiences. How much are you paying these publications?? How could anyone in good conscience suggest this! While I was sitting there I felt compelled to send a company wide message warning my coworkers to save their money. For the price of this, I expected at least multiple rounds of tea - but no. One selection of tea and then you can have more hot water, but no more leaves. The presentation was a small plate with 2 scones for each of us with a tray of the three toppings (the NOT clotted cream) being one of them. Our 6 sandwiches apiece sat shoved on their own plates on the first two tiers of a serving tower. Below were the desserts - crammed, toppled over, and melting. This might be the only negative review I’ve written and I feel guilty, but it was literally that bad. $400 for 2????

We enjoyed the tea and appreciated the piano in the background. The general din and noise level, though, made it very hard to have a conversation with the person across the table. And as a table for 2, that made our experience not great.

My wife and I were seriously disappointed in the experience of "Holiday Buffet Breakfast" which advertises a "rich buffet" at the Fairmont Hotel. The breakfast restaurant was almost empty which wasn't conducive to a jolly Holiday ambience. The hotel is beautiful and the room is elegant and charming, but we didn't feel pampered and the waiter brought our check, unasked, before we had finished. The buffet is inferior to almost any breakfast buffet we have eaten at any great hotel in every continent of the world (we are great travellers): the bacon and chicken sausage were cool (almost cold) and hard and dry. The scrambled eggs were also cold and hard, there were tasty smoked salmon mini-bagels, but no other fish. There were no cheeses, vegetables, cold cuts, salads. There were two other cooked dishes which were mediocre quality, although the coffee was excellent. For $49 each+tax+$32 hotel parking (at a discount) it wasn't worth the price and was a let-down.

Nice afternoon tea with family to celebrate two December Birthdays. The service was terrific, tea selection and scones were good. I was surprised that they didn’t have Devonshire Cream for the scones. The tea sandwiches and sweets were stale and sub par. Surprising for the price of the tea. They did bring out two lovely deserts for the birthday ladies with adorable gingerbread cutouts on the chocolate covered strawberries. Our party enjoyed the holiday experience and decorations but felt the food could have been improved.
