We loved having tea here! It was a wonderful place to celebrate a birthday too. Fermin made sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to make our experience special. Thank you Fermin!

Fermin our waiter was terrific. He was personable and helpful. Disappointed that the clientele was casual and sloppy. The site said “business attire” yet worn-out sweat pants, tennis shoes and baseball caps were worn by most. Not hip sweat pants, tennis shoes and caps…meh. Enjoyed Michael the piano player; his music was well curated. The hotel is lovely but worn in some areas. For the price of the tea $$$ they could have had table clothes that covered the old tables. Or, at least the table could have had the jelly cleaned off before we sat down. The plate of food was set in top of it. Would not recommend. Once again, Fermin was lovely.

Took an hour and ten minutes just to get our appetizer served for the Valentine’s Day set course. It was a set menu and they knew we were coming for weeks. The food was nothing special and exorbitantly expensive.

I’ve had tea at other hotels and Fairmonts this wasn’t the exceptional afternoon tea experience I would have expected at a Fairmont that proudly advertised it as the tradition since 1907. I expected to see fancier or patterned dedicated tea set and tower to go with the beautiful restaurant interior rather than more common white coffee cups and plates that could have come from a general restaurant supply. Our server was very attentive with refills and we didn’t feel rushed which was nice. I thought the water seemed closer to boiling than the lower temperature ideal for steeping an oolong. The sandwiches and deserts were okay overall. Relatively fresh but nothing special. It would have been nice to see a seasonal, themed or cohesive menu. This tea could have been anywhere in the US since there was nothing that said “San Francisco” or “Fairmont” about it. Maybe they are lacking a pastry chef or anyone passionate about the tea service, which was a bit surprising in San Francisco as there are great chefs, food, and ingredients here. It would have been nice to see a whipped butter for the savory scone in addition to the jam, lemon curd, and cream which are more geared towards the biscuit. One of the members in our party has a shellfish allergy and felt sick afterwards despite not being served any sea food, so I’m a bit concerned about cross contamination. There was a baby shower in the same tea area that got a bit loud at times, but maybe there wasn’t a private room available. If I was scheduling for afternoon tea enthusiasts I would book elsewhere. Otherwise it would probably be a decent experience for a birthday or small festive occasion.

Wonderful tea experience with my daughter for her 16th birthday. They even sang and played “Happy Birthday “ to her on the piano. The food was delicious, the tea very tasty and the live piano music just perfect.

There was a minimum order required and it took them 40 minutes to deliver lunch with the formal excuse of having only 2 people in the kitchen for a restaurant that seats 150 people in a 5 star hotel
