Restaurants near Wren's Nest Village Inn

We consider Puddledock one of Portsmouth’s top-tier restaurants and that it doesn’t often get the credit it deserves. The menu is both inventive and accessible, the ambience perhaps the best in the city.

We went here first time years ago to get a drink while waiting for friends. Lively bar and GREAT beer selection. We wanted to stay but our friends had reservations for us at another place - and that place was not great. So on our next visit we wanted to try this place. Derek our server was super nice and knowledgeable. I asked for his recommendations as I had been on a streak of not asking and ordering something I was disappointed in. We started with his recommendation of crudo and it was fantastic. I normal order an app that is way too big and ruin my main meal. Then I got the Hake and my wife got the salmon. We got a side of shoestrings. All were excellent. If I’m being a Chopped judge I think a touch of acid would have made the Hake other worldly. Super lively great service - place was PACKED. Highly recommended

We have been for Easter brunch and drinks, but, wanted to go back to try a steak dinner. The space is nice and the staff are pleasant, but, our steaks had sat for quite some time before coming to us. Long enough that my butter didn’t melt on the steak and my mushrooms had started to dry up. We will go again in hopes that this was an off night. If the food had been hot I’m sure it would have been entirely different.

Christmas Eve dinner was outstanding! Everything was perfect - from the warm service, delicious cocktails and fabulous meal. Thank you!!

Our first visit was Christmas Eve and a wonderful experience started the moment we walked in the door. Between Alex and our server Chloe who couldn’t have been more lovely and the dinner it was fabulous. We will be back again very soon.
