Kushiage [deep-fried skewers] restaurant Hantei preserves the structure of its ancestors. There was a decision around the beginning of the century to widen a road which involved removing the frontage of the original building. The new structure is a blend of past and present: a large metal fence covers the scars from the construction and through the gaps in that fence the shape of the old building can still be seen. Three-story structures built from Japanese zelkova wood are rare and difficult to find in Japan - built during the Meiji era, it even withstood the Great Kanto Earthquake. The building was also designated as part of the tangible Cultural Properties by Japan's Agency of Cultural Affairs. The second and third floor offer a gorgeous view of the beautifully aligned roof tiles that give it a pleasant downtown charm.

In 1971, the original Hard Rock Cafe was established in London. Well known for its “Love All, Serve All” policy and “All Is One” mentality, this restaurant that stated pure soul was the appearance of the theme restaurant that carried out as a momentum of weakening class society of Europe. From interior, logo, food, service, and even staff uniform was filled to the charm, which smashed the common sense of the very conventional restaurant, and it held the fans captive from across the world. As in other countries, the Hard Rock Cafes in Japan allow you to enjoy American home-style cooking while Rock & Roll fills the restaurant all around you. In addition, Memorabilia such as guitars, outfits, gold disks, and autographed posters from famous musicians decorate the walls. The LOGO T-shirt with a city name sold only to the person who visited the store of the city became a well renowned hot-selling product. “People” magazine raved about the Hard Rock Cafe as the “Smithsonian of Rock & Roll.”

What a remarkable experience! We have lived in Japan for the past six months, and this was absolutely our best eating experience since we moved here. The restaurant is very beautiful - private and intimate with just ten seats at the sushi bar. The hostess and her husband, the chef, are just some of the most friendly people I've ever met, and the young lady who took care of the diners and ensured that we always had fresh green tea and a full water glass was attentive and friendly. We had so many questions about the food, about the restaurant and its decorations, and about Japan in general, and the hostess was engaging and informative, teaching us things about sushi, about the local area, and about Japanese culture in general. There were three parties at the restaurant when we went, and we never felt ignored or disregarded. The meal was paced perfectly - the minute you had an inkling of maybe wanting another new experience of sushi, there was the chef, making something else. The ingredients were the best I've tasted, amazingly fresh and prepared perfectly. Though not cheap, the experience was worth every bit of the cost and we plan on going again as often as we are able to get to Tokyo and Roppongi.
