The cocktails and food were very creative. The wine list is exclusively, unapologetically, and properly Italian. I love my California wines, but am glad that this place is committed to Italian food and wine.

I've been to La Lanterna many times and will continue to do so whenever I visit a friend in San Mateo. The food is consistently delicious, portions are generous, and the cocktails and wine options are great. The ambiance is nice, with an upscale feel, although the vibe is relaxed and friendly. I recently learned that it's operated by a family, which I value and appreciate. Service is great, and we never feel rushed, which isn't the norm nowadays. A big thanks to the family who works hard to provide an excellent dining experience!

Our server was wonderful, fun and very personable. The food was fresh and really good. The only reason for a 4-star rating on ambience was that the entrance from the back of the restaurant (handicapped parking for my 83 y/o mother) and the restroom could use a little cleaning. Other than that, a very fun evening and great menu options for everyone, including vegetarians!

went here for thanksgiving dinner. seated immediately. the menu was smaller but ticked all the boxes for anyone wanting either a traditional thanksgiving turkey dinner or their more popular offerings. we opted for ribeye and chicken parmesan as our entrees and house salad and butternut squash soup as appetizers/starters. excellent service, prompt. the food was great. reasonably priced--we got out of there at around $167 before tip. would definitely return.

Our server Patrick did a great job even though the dining area was busy with multiple groups. He was professional and attentive throughout our luncheon experience. The food was delicious as always. We will be back soon!
