Mushrooms are the heart of what we do at the Joel Palmer House. We have always endeavored to obtain seasonal and local ingredients and we use many locally produced greens, herbs, and vegetables, some of which come from our own culinary garden. We are frequently inspired by ingredients found in the cuisines of France, China, Thailand, Poland and India, so we call our cooking "freestyle." Our dishes pair well the celebrated wines of Oregon, especially Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Our extensive, Oregon-focused wine list has been awarded the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator. Of special note, The Joel Palmer House ranks as one of Oregon's finest historic homes and is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Oregon Historic Register. Built in 1857, the house is Dayton's oldest standing structure.     We celebrated our anniversary there. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We were just visiting Salem but if we came back here we could definitely get this restaurant again.

    Awesome experience! Got seated right on time. Service exceptional. Caesar salad had right amount of dressing. One of better ones I have tasted. Tomahawk Steak cooked to perfection (Medium Rare). Cocktails and wine paired perfectly. Waitress brought my wife (birthday) a warm Blackberry Cobbler ala mode:-)

    Fun restaurant! We had Liz as our waitress and she was wonderful. Good sense of humor, helpful and knowledgeable regarding our choices. We really enjoyed her! I had the oysters, crab cakes & potato chips. All were very good. Unfortunately they were out of steamers. That was my only disappointment. Loved the wine on tap. My husband is not a big seafood fan so it was limiting for him. He had the charcuterie to start and the steak for dinner. He said both were very good. He was very happy with the ice cream and coffee. We really had a delightful time and I’ll go back the next time we are in town! Thank you
