Tex-Mex cuisine began in the Rio Grande Valley before migrating up to San Antonio during the l860's where a group of women known as The Chili Queens' began to pop up in the city's plazas selling chili con carne with tamales, enchiladas, and chili verde. They incorporated cumin into their dishes favored by settlers from theCanary lslands, which still has a strong influence on Mexican food in Texas. We had the most lovely dinner with a view at Salty’s on recommendation of a local friend. The calamari is phenomenal and crab cakes were just ok. I wish they included bread for the price point. I had the Steelhead and really loved it, other diners in our party had the clam chowder and scallops and also said they were great. We were, unfortunately, too full for dessert. Service was excellent and the view was everything we were looking forward to.
