The Captain Digby, a family friendly restaurant and bar which caters for all ages & occasions, with sea views overlooking Kingsgate Bay. We serve generously portioned fresh, home cooked food from our bar, restaurant & children's menu. Food is served from 12 noon each day, all day until late check our operating hours before arrival.Choose from our family dining area, close to our indoor play area or our cliff top restaurant with sea views. Alfresco dining is available with 40 benches overlooking the bay but these are non-reservable and work on a first come first served basis. Please note we can not guarantee window tables. We do not allow dogs inside our venue but they are welcome in our outside dining areas. Being so close to the shoreline we tend to have issues regarding internet connections and advise all customers also bring cash as an alternative payment.

Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. A wonderful dining experience, the setting is absolutely gorgeous, the staff very attentive and the steak and fish of the day (stone fish) were cooked perfectly with lots of flavours. I also think it offers real value for money. We’d love to visit again.

It was our first visit and it was delightful. The host was very friendly and had a nice chat with my husband about football. As it was our first visit, he explained how the small plate system worked. The young lady serving us was very friendly and efficient. We had some lovely food. Even though they are small plates, we had enough to eat. The chocolate and ginger tart was a singing combination!!! Will definitely go again.

First time we had visited. We had a lovely table with views over the bay. Service was friendly good-menu choices. The food was presented well it was hot and very good portions. We will definitely be back soon
