We made 5:45 reservations for Valentine’s Day dinner. Our table wasn’t ready for 25 minutes after, but it was worth the wait. The menu was limited, but my wife and I found an entree’s that was delicious. My wife had ahi tuna and I had chicken. Both meals were prepared perfectly and the food was great. Our server, Astrid, was cordial, prompt, attentive, and competent. We tipped generously, as she earned it. Very nice evening.

We were initially seated at a table right in front of the musician. I asked to be moved and was accommodated with a table on their lower patio. It was quiet and lovely with sparkling little white lights around the canopy poles. Our server, Robert, was excellent. He was very personable and helpful but never intrusive. His menu suggestions were terrific. The filet and mahi-mahi were perfectly cooked and served with yummy potatoes or rice and veggies. Salads are crisp and delicious as our their other starters. If you have room for dessert, they are decadent. My husband says their Mai tais are the best and the no Kai oi martini is my favorite. Merriman’s is pricey but worth it for the great drinks, food, and service. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time.

We have been visitors to Maui for years, but this was our first visit to Mala Ocean Tavern. We didn't know what we were missing! We were seated promptly on the 'lanai' overlooking the ocean. The sun was bright and the waves were breaking just beyond the railing (hence, "not quiet"). We had an appetizer of coconut shrimp, which was delicious with the aioli dip. We ordered a glass of pinot noir with dinner. My Valentine ordered roasted pork shank which was the best she had eaten in a long time! Plus, it was a massive piece of meat and has served for a couple of additional meals. I was a bit more adventuresome and ordered the 1.5 lb whole opakapaka on a bed of Molokai mashed sweet potato and vegetables. It was exquisite! My 'speed-eating' was also slowed down to be sure I avoided any small bones There was plenty of food there to satisfy my appetite, but it was so delicious I cleaned it to the bone! Unfortunately, we were so full that we weren't able to sample dessert, so that will have to wait for another time. Bottom line is this was the best meal in a great location that we have had on Maui in years. We will definitely be back - Mala Ocean Tavern moves to the top of our list!

We thoroughly enjoyed our Valentine's Day lunch at the Plantation House. We were seated at the open window at a table for two with a commanding view of the links and ocean afar. As if on cue the whales were breeching. I ordered the Catch of the Day, Mahi Mahi with a lobster sauce (40 something$) and my wife had the omelette. We enjoyed two cocktails, I the Majestic Mai Tai and she the Pain in the Coconut. Both drinks were very good and presented with the expected Hawaiian flair. Our server, whose name escapes me at the moment was very pleasant, helpful and guided us perfectly in our menu choices. The rest of our experience was orchestrated by the Tradewinds.

Our fresh fish choices were excellent. I had the parm. Crusted mahimahi with Avery light lemon butter caper sauce with mashed potatoes and heirloom colored carrots! Hubby had the herb roasted Ali.. spelling, very light swordfish with a sensational sauce, green beans and fingerling potatoes. He said his was outstanding! The Hula pie was great too! Wonderful dinner!
