It all began with a love story and a dream. Linwood, a chef, and Ellen, a reporter, met 36 years ago in a restaurant of course! They married and began to envision that someday they would open a restaurant of their own. The restaurant’s first business plan was written at their dining room table on an electric typewriter. In 1988 Linwoods opened its doors, and it has been a labour of love for more than thirty years. Linwoods’ cuisine consists of the freshest ingredients, and inventive preparation. Our service is warm and attentive. We have developed a reputation for consistency an attention to detail. These qualities are key to our catering business as well. The White Oak Tavern is a family-owned business, operated by a brother & sister that are Ellicott City locals.     Great service. Excellent food. I went all in for French onion. French onion soup and French onion burger with fries. Both were outstanding. In fact, the fries were the second best fries I've ever had. The best fries in the world are made by Thrashers in Ocean City, Maryland and Rehoboth, Delaware. But the fries at Linwoods are a close second.

    This was our first time visiting, and we had a great experience. Gabe (our server) was very attentive and knowledgeable. He explained all of the chef specials in great detail. We opted for the lobster ravioli and surf and turf. His coworker (can't recall the name - sorry) bought us our wine was also very friendly and attentive. The pasta was great, perfectly cooked, and the portion was perfect. The surf and turf was good as well. The steak could have used a bit more seasoning, but the crab was plenty and savory. It's a nice neighborhood gem, and we'll definitely return.

    This is our second visit. The food was good but ordered the same meal and not as good as the first time. It was very salty. Others said their food was salty as well. The appetizers were good. Restaurant was busy but the service was fine. We will try again as maybe it was an off night.
