On May 13, 1931, Giuseppe Cipriani opened Harry's Bar in Venice. Over the years, Harry's Bar has become the place where writers, painters, artists, aristocrats, kings, and queens would meet. Among them were: Barbara Hutton, Katherine Hepburn, Gary Cooper, Giancarlo Menotti, Peggy Guggenheim, Orson Welles, Frank Lloyd Wright, Joe DiMaggio, Truman Capote, and Ernest Hemingway. The keys to the success of this small bar were: service, freedom, and lack of imposition.Throughout its 93-year history, Harry's Bar has witnessed the 20th century in Venice.     We had a wonderful Christmas Day lunch at Gio’s. With stunning views in the sunshine across the Grand Canal to Saluté and San Georgio we had the most excellent service in these glorious surroundings. The food was first class. Delicate and full of flavour, beautifully presented. We could fault nothing.

    Christmas Day lunch in the rooftop Terrazza Restaurant of one of the best hotels in Venice. Only set-menu offered but perfectly adequate. The food and service were both high standard and a comprehensive wine list available. None of this is cheap but you get what you pay for.

    Interesting decorations where thousands of Aperol bottles on the selves give a warm orange hue in the restaurant. Staff courteous and professional. Excellent food. The Fegato (liver) alla Veneziana just as it should be. Tables a bit crowded Entrance door right next to some tables was left open be incoming/outcoming customers and an icy draft was present. Overall a memorable Christmas Eve dinner.

    My entree was served 15 minutes before my partners. I truly believe they forgot his entree ( a burger) but when questioned about where it was, the waiter said it was still being prepared. Other than that the food was fresh and hot, as well as plentiful.
