- DDavidvipLondon •31 reviews4.0Dined 1 day agoLove sticky walnut. Been probably ten times inside a year of living in chester; used to plan weekend break trips to Manchester from Teesside around eating at Kala; regular at White Horse including six days ago. However it was far from its best this time at SW. service like many places inexperienced and still getting things fully together, food ok but over sauced on fish and for the cheese board (very good indeed) to be the best course says something. Saddest thing was looking at value, and thinking (despite excellent bottle of Albariño which was happy with value) it wasn’t very good at all. Ate better at white horse churton for around half the week before. Clearly service added to it but - even in current climate where you’re not going to get a hot or Michelin starred three course meal for south of £300-350 minimum - it just looked £20 too high at 225. Would have thought 180 plus service fine and accepted not at its best but just was the first time in SW when i have left not thinking ‘what a great night and fantastic vfm’. Anyway, will be back soon I’m sure and hoping like all restaurants around the UK have, that it’s only a temporary dip. SW is still brilliant and we’re lucky to have itMore infoSticky WalnutPrice: Expensive• Bistro• Chester•4.7

- CChrisCheshire •4 reviews5.0Dined on 11 Nov 2024Beautiful restaurant. Very attentive staff giving good service. Our meals were delicious and not too expensive. Would recommend highly if you're visiting the zoo. Make sure you book early though, several people were turned away or had to book in for much later!More infoThe OakfieldPrice: Moderate• International• Chester•4.4
- LLindseyCheshire •1 review4.0Dined on 14 Sept 2024The food was absolutely stunning, but I do think the service could be better, especially when a tip is added to your bill (I dont agree with discretionary tips) I do also feel the wine was slightly overpriced when it's bought by the glassMore infoSalt at Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & SpaPrice: Expensive• British• Tarporley•3.3
