- RRobertEssex •3 reviews5.0Dined 3 days agoOur table upstairs was spacious and not too near neighbouring diners. A speaker near us meant the music was a bit too loud but the friendly waitress turned it down as soon as I asked. The new Prix Fixe menu was quite different from last week, but our choices were delicious.More infoThe Anchor Inn - NaylandPrice: Moderate• British• Nayland•4.6
- JJohnEssex •1 review5.0Dined 3 days agoWe went for the Valentines Day lunch which was wonderful, as always. I ordered the Valentines chocolate box on line when booking. I was hoping the chocolates would arrive at our table as a surprise for my wife. When I mentioned chocolates at the end of our meal our waitress had no idea what I was talking about and brought a senior colleague who also had no clue. Eventually he found the item and shew it to me on his phone and said I needed to order it as an extra, which I had done. So no surprise, eventually they said there will be no charge for the chocolates - which was kind, but the moment had passed. Staff training on 'specials' would be the way forward.More infoCarluccio's - Fenwick ColchesterPrice: Expensive• Italian• Colchester•4.7
- MMilesEssex •17 reviews5.0Dined 4 days agoLovely evening out again at this great restaurant. Tasty starters of short rib arancini and a shepherds pie - unusual starter but really works. Then treated ourselves to a chateaubriand to share for main course, which was prepared to our liking. Then finished with a nice selection of cheese and biscuits. A nice touch is that the front of house Harry remembered our drinks selection from a previous visit, however they also offered a chance to change to a different wine that they recommended. Service was not rushed but prompt when required and the venue was busy despite it being the evening before Valentine’s Day. This tells you a lot about the quality of a evening at The House by Hilly Gant.More infoThe House by Hilly GantPrice: Very Expensive• British• Braintree•4.7
- DDebbieEssex •4 reviews5.0Dined 4 days agoThis is one of our family favourite places. Today was my 60th birthday celebration, and as usual the food was excellent. We have been going to Banquet for years and a change of ownership but consistently yummy food. Highly recommendMore infoBanquet ChinesePrice: Expensive• Cantonese• Colchester•4.7
- SSerenaEssex •1 review5.0Dined on 5 Jan 2025We were a table of 18 dining to celebrate a birthday. Without asking we were offered the private dining room upstairs and having ordered in advance all the adult meals everything just ran so smoothly. From the moment we were greeted at the door we were made to feel welcome, valued and comfortable. The service was brilliant and relaxed in a great way with 6 children to cater for too. Nothing was too much trouble and the birthday sundae wowed us all! Thank you Nicole and all the team. You did a wonderful job.More infoBill's Restaurant & Bar - ColchesterPrice: Moderate• British• Colchester•4.6
