From building society, to bank, to BEAR – this ornate old banking hall site on Derby’s Iron Gate stood empty and forgotten for 9 long years… until we came along.BEAR Iron Gate, Derby sits slap-bang in the centre of the city’s iconic and beautiful Cathedral Quarter; the original hotspot for high-quality food and drink. Opening in 2017 following the success of our Uttoxeter store, the progression to Derby seemed natural for BEAR, as our two founders spent a lot of time in the city as teens, so they have loads of fun memories attached to the place.

The structure is traditional but the Decor is very, very modern. Purple walls with orange borders and the Submarine grey fire place in the games room with astro-turf may give you a heavy indication that at this venues core, it's a Sports Bar but you'd be wrong. The Menu matches the ambiance of the Friary perfectly, everything you'll need for a visit here. We last ate here in 2023, having enjoyed many happy times at Darleys over the last 30 years: Birthdays & Anniversaries etc. We are pleased to say Darleys is back on form! Lunch was both excellent value, beautifully presented (and served) and the food was delicious. A transformation from our last visit... We shall be back very soon & again be able to champion the best dining experience Derby has to offer...with pride & truthfulness: tremendous. With thanks!
