Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty. This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience. Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Excellent meal this evening at the George Hotel. A reassuringly condensed and well-curated menu, our selections were fantastic - delicious, perfectly prepared & presented, & interesting. Cocktails were also good, house wine was much better than most & the staff were great. Good value for such quality.

Wonderful lunch at The Highstreet Kitchen yesterday. Attentive service and dishes altered to accommodate my food intolerances which I had previously messaged about. Delicate and beautiful presented dishes using locally sourced ingredients. Wonderful freshly caught local fish was the highlight for us as well as a specially made gluten free desert. Will be returning soon.

Fantastic food, superb service, quite expensive for what you get, portion size lets it down especially the sushi and side dishes (small bowl of noodles and peanuts £6) expect to buy several different items which pushes the price up don't get me wrong the food is amazing but it's not somewhere you could eat regularly.
