   the food and service was amazing. our waiter was so kind and helpful. a couple of us ordered the Chilean Sea Bass , unfortunately they'd run out so we got the 8 ounce filet mignon & let me tell you it did not disappoint it was amazing and buttery 👌🏾🙏🏾🫶🏾‼️so I will be goin back in the new year for a Spring Time Celebration 🎊🎉🎉 if you all go I hope you have an amazing experience like we did.    We had our company Christmas lunch there this morning and, steak was ordered medium rare and came out well done and my salad did not arrive before I asked about it. So unimpressed this time Frank Painter

   It was COLD!! And they changed half price wine night to Sundays despite it saying Monday when I booked, and even sitting at the table it said Monday. The manager refused to honor it even though I waiter thought they should. They messed up the sidees on 2 of the 3 plates. No one asked if our steaks were cooked properly either (one was overdone). Most disappointing time there ever, we would have gone yesterday for half price wine AND prime rib.

   I think my overall feeling about J. Gilbert McLean is gratitude. In stark contrast to a trendy (former) favorite restaurant in the District where we dined the night before, we were welcomed with warmth, shown to a comfortable fireside table, enjoyed enough privacy to enjoy our conversation without being jostled, were taken care of by a conscientious , competent and endearing server, and enjoyed excellent quality food and drink meticulously (if not wildly inventively) prepared that arrived promptly and at a comfortable cadence. A relaxing, satisfying, gratifying meal and environment for those more interested in each other than in a trendy scene. We felt valued and well cared for, which is exactly what we needed after an opposite experience elsewhere!

   First off, great customer service at the front desk and also by our wonderful server. Two, the food was outstanding, tasty, and well-presented. Ambiance was just what we've always appreciated about J. Gilbert's, sedate and way above-average adult setting. A delightful dining experience all around. And that's why we keep coming back to J. Gilbert's. Thanks for making our family's holiday dinner a great experience. Well done, you!!

    We have periodically come to lunch on Friday work a group of 5 or 6 for many years. This was our worst experience. Perhaps the kitchen was overwhelmed with group holiday lunches, but we were disappointed with both the food quality and service, particularly at this price point.
