Executive Chef, Alex McPhail has returned to his hometown after 6 years studying under some of the finest chefs in the industry in New Orleans. Taking culinary tips he picked up at Commander’s Palace, Restaurant August & the Roosevelt Hotel, Alex has created a dining environment unlike any other nearby.

    The food was beyond mediocre considering nearly $200 was spent. As a food critic based in NYC, this would easily be the worst value for a meal imaginable in NYC. The duck was hard to eat and the puree completely overpowered it. The lamb was beyond chewy and the other half of the plate filled with purée was unnecessary. The amount of truffle fries were by no means necessary, in fact quite wasteful. That being said, the gnocchi and escargot was actually quite creative and experimental. I quite enjoyed that, which is a shame as it was followed by 3 disappointing plates.

    This was our second time visiting. We sat at the (drink) bar. Nice spot instead of the outside table we had reserved (too cold). The hostess made the suggestion as an option to switch seat locations when we checked in which we appreciated. We had a couple of drinks, cheese plate, duck & pork chop entrees, a piece of icebox pie, and after dinner drinks. The value was very good for the qualify of food and drinks. The bartenders were pleasant and busy. The cheese plate was generously sized and pork chop was very hearty. Not a lot of duck for entree but tons of Brussel sprouts. We would go back any time. Treat yourself and give it a try.

    Once again we enjoyed the First Dibs offering. It was my third First Dibs. This was December so it was gumbo, slow-seared pork chop and an apple-apricot dessert paired with sips of 3 complimentary wines. It is fun to try different menu items. I have not been disappointed yet!

    Dinner at the Iron is always special. The quality of food, drinks and presentation is unmatched in Pensacola. Service should be what others aspire to. Danielle P is great as are most all their staff.

    Love the vibe of Iron. Every staff member was very nice, service was excellent. Both our appetizers (gnocchi w/ escargot, and the Chicken Wings) were delicious. Very good wine at reasonable price point. The entrees had a couple issues. The chicken fried venison was pretty blue rare. Venison is a difficult meat to prepare I know, but this was simply too rare (and I'm fine with rare to med. rare meat) Everything that came with this dish was delicious. I got the reverse sear pork chop. Delicious, well cooked, and nice accompaniments. My issue with the chop was the fat cap was very close to half of the chop. I am not one to cut away the fat on a good steak, but many of the bites were nothing but fat. We will absolutely return to Iron, and I'm sure we will find other dishes to enjoy.
