I like to discover new restaurants in the neighborhood--the kind hidden in strip malls away from the crowd. I thought I had found the very one at the House of India. But alas--I was disappointed. The place is surprisingly elegant--in a quaint sort of way. It is tiny but it takes pain to cover each table in a clean white cloth. The food was OK, but did not rise to my expectations at all. I ordered curry chicken and my husband had curry salmon. Both dishes were a bit dry. Even the Kashmiri Naan (bread with nuts and raisins) seemed to lack its usual deliciousness. I did not taste any nuts or raisins. However, my server claimed they were in there! He was very nice. I must say that the atmosphere was quiet and soothing. There were only two other couples in the restaurant at the time. Perhaps Monday is not a good day for finding a stimulating atmosphere. We will probably go back. I honesty saw some real potential.

This is a favorite neighborhood restaurant for us despite the strip mall setting because the food is decent and they treat us like family. The service is consistently fast, attentive and personal and the food hot and plentiful. We went for my teenaged daughter's birthday and everyone left full and happy. Ask about the Cauliflower Manchurian even if it's not offered as one of the specials. Love that sweet and spicy dish as an entree or as an appetizer. The spinach with mushrooms was delicious. The grilled lamb was flavorful and less tough than the lamb in the tikka masala sauce. I didn't taste my daughter's salmon tikka masala but she said it was great. The grilled salmon (wild, Alaskan) was a big hit at our table, as was the naan.

Great selection of food including salads, meets and desserts. Spice on the side to give it some kick. All meats were extremely moist. Very good and would come back again!

What a pleasant surprise as it was my first time eating at this establishment. When I arrived I was quickly attended to and provided a table and informed that there was a buffet which I thought was very reasonably priced. The food selection was extensive. I do not frequent Indian food much so was not sure what to select. I chose a little of nearly everything and found the food to be quite delectable, even went back for more of one chicken dish. There was quite a selection of rice and vegetable dishes in addition various meat dishes in an array of sauces. Salad was there too as well desert (although I did not eat the latter). I would definitely go back again!

Very good traditional Indian dishes. The staff was very friendly. They didn't have a kids menu with crayons to draw on but they found some markers for the kids and gave them white paper place mats to color on. They offered up a free appetizer that was delicious. The food was the best Indian we've had since moving here from DC. All in all a good experience and we will be back.

The food was very good, tasty, and was served hot. We bought too many dishes, but hey, we had great leftovers for the next day. It be an excellent on the food, but thought some of the dishes - lamb chops, shrimp, were cooked too much, They came out on hot plates but too well done for my taste. The cauliflower, salmon dishes were excellent, as was the bread. Definitely would go back, and mention not to over cook things and then bring them out on hot dishes to boot!
