I love Grouse Mt Grill. I was married in BC and our reception here 20 years ago. Food was excellent! Service fab! The ONLY negative is the noise level. The live music was nice, but I think since it was loud, guests needed to talk louder to hear each other. It was difficult to hear each other at the table…

It had been years since we have been back to Grouse. More largely because hosting larger groups invited more casual gatherings at home. 2/19 was a special night in that it was my wife’s birthday and I had hoped for an evening to “connect”, to slow down, pause and reflect the BLESSING that she IS and the many HE has known our lives. From the moment we arrived, we were GREETED by “Love”, a heart that appeared to “anticipate” our arrival. We were about 15 minutes early and when I offered that we would be happy to sit at the bar until our table was available, the hostess was quick to say, oh no, “YOUR Table is ready and awaiting your arrival. We have a very special, romantic table by the windows, one of best views. Happy Birthday Mrs. Bishop”. What a JOY it is to be RECEIVED with such intentionality…like, Family. To our delight and surprise, we were then GREETED…WELCOMED once again with 2 glasses of Champagne by the Manager to add to our Celebration. Bubbly just happens to be my wife’s favorite, the table was “set” for all that I had hoped…PRAYED for that this evening might be. Our server, Robert added only more to our delight through his desire to offer us the fullness of the menu…the Chef’s Specials as an alternative to a menu that had already beckoned our fascination. Everything looked amazing…comprehensive and interestingly too, all our favorites. We opted for veggies as a starter, the Brussel Sprouts were on a different level, without question the best we had ever had…charred perfectly, sweet yet not overpowering. The serving was SO large we could have skipped the main course. The Cauliflower was out of this world. SO good, I could not resist sharing with my Birthday girl. We were like, “already tonight is a 10, what could possibly be next”. Full from homemade breads, delicious app’s, my wife ordered beef carpaccio for her main and I went for a lighter main, black cod. Within minutes, they both evaporate from our plates. Bravo Grouse!

I asked about a vegetarian dish because there was surprisingly none on the menu. The waitstaff gave me two choices: a very heavy pasta and an Asian stirfry. I ordered the latter. What came out was literally just a few vegetables for an entrée. There is no explanation or offered to supplement. it was just a few veggies. My advice would be to have one vegetarian thing on the menu so it wasn’t a surprise. Was not great and the atmosphere was super off where we were sitting. On the positive the tater tots were good.

The service was very good. They had at least four different people come to our table to get us going with everything. Waiter was very knowledgeable and pointed out the items of note. We had the Lobster Marscopone to start with and then salmon and black cod. Both entrees were delicious. Poached pear was not my favorite for desert. By desert, the noise level was so high, we were shouting across the table to talk. All in, it was a great dinner, just a few minor issues made it not outstanding.

The dining experience at Grouse Mountain Grill is exceptional! Our server, Duffy, changed “dinner” for our family into an interesting visit to an art gallery through his colorful descriptions of each entree, transforming each into a work of art. We loved it!
