We were at the end of the balcony on the first floor. There was a good party atmosphere. Everyone dressed up for New Year. The food was very good and the first band 3 girl singers) in particular, were excellent. Romanian pinot noir and Warsteiner stein also recommended.

Website claimed we would have the table all night if booking the upstairs mezzanine. We booked this as it was nye and we’re looking forward to the live band. It stated we would arrive to the live band and enjoy our food while they played. Our booking was at 7:15 and the band didn’t come on until 20:30. We were then made to leave at 21:00 as they said they had another booking. We were told we could move to the bar but it was standing only. I have a bad back so cannot be standing for long periods. The whole meal felt rushed (which made sense once they revealed we did not in fact have the table all night). Food came out cold and very tough beef and we had to ask for steak knives. When leaving we mentioned how the website stated we had the table all evening and they admitted we were not the first table to have complained about this. Food was ok but we felt really let down and misled.

We attended the NYE dinner with high expectations, but unfortunately, our experience left us with mixed feelings. The food was overall good, with the main dish and dessert being particularly exquisite. However, we found the entrée to be quite small and limited (the shrimps salad), which didn’t align with the quality of the other courses. The primary issue we encountered was with the service. We had reserved a table for the entire evening, with the understanding that it would be available to us throughout the night. However, as we were nearing the end of our dinner, one of the waitresses informed us that we would need to move to another area as they needed the table for the next service. I explained that, according to our booking agreement, the table was reserved for us all night, (we were seated on the upper floor). The waitress mentioned she would speak with the manager, but unfortunately, we never received any follow-up or resolution, leaving us confused and a bit uncomfortable. Additionally, we found that the staff was not particularly friendly, and some interactions felt rather curt. For instance, when we arrived, we were not offered the option to leave our coats in the cloakroom, which would have been a nice touch for a NYE dinner. While this may seem like a minor detail, it’s these small touches that can elevate the overall experience especially in such a competitive night as NYE. Another disappointment was with the live music. The live music didn’t start until we were already halfway through our dinner, and it wasn’t continuous. Instead, it was played in bursts, with long periods of silence during the evening. Given that the live music was highlighted in the restaurant’s offerings, we had expected it to be a consistent part of the experience from the start of dinner but that was not the case. Overall, while it was a positive experience, we had anticipated a more seamless and polished experience for NYE dinner.

    1. The Ringaal restaurant at 7pm for our booking was fairly empty, yet my husband and I were led to a table for two stuck right at the back corner, at the foot of the stairwell, unable to see anything, any view at all. It's a health and safety risk, if you stood up suddenly after a glass of Prosecco you could easily trip down the deep narrow staircase. It's a table clearly there to have another two covers to pay, as it's a ridiculous position for people who pay £100 per head for NYE dinner and ambience. They tried to put another couple there but we saw they moved table too and refused to sit there. 2. The food was literally stone cold. We asked for it to be reheated and it returned a few minutes later, exactly the same temperature. For £98 per head, it was literally one piece of cold hard broccoli, a smidgon of mash squeezed from a pipe and cold thick beef, not thinly sliced. 3. The custard was stone cold. We asked for it to be reheated and the reply was "we don't that." 4. While we were waiting (as they forgot to bring the Prosecco on arrival we had to ask), we requested bread rolls, to accompany soup and we were charged £5 for stale bread, it had a funny stale taste which was very clear. 4. The bill arrived after dessert, without even asking if we wanted a hot drink or any more drinks. So we duly paid and left. We didn't quibble, it's NYE, we justs paid and left but were hugely disappointed.

Had an extremely negative experience at German Gymnasium for New Year’s Eve. Coming from New York on our honeymoon, my spouse and I picked a table here specifically because of the NYE offering listed on the website: “Book a table on our first floor mezzanine and enjoy our three course tasting menu for £98. Keep the table all night with views of the band.” We were seated shortly after 7, but by 7:45 saw a table next to us realize they would be asked to leave before midnight. For the rest of our meal, we were distracted by watching staff argue with table after table, forcing them to leave the spots they had paid for. Eventually, staff came to ask us to leave, offering to move us to a communal table away from the main space/band, where they were funneling all their angry guests. We declined this offer and left to find a different establishment to spend our New Year. Needless to say, if we had known we would pay 98 pounds per person for incredibly mediocre food and service, to spend our dinner observing argument and argument, and to be forced to vacate the table we paid for, we would have stayed far away.

The restaurant is located in a beautifully preserved building in Kings Cross... The European-style food was absolutely delicious (and one of the tastiest schnitzels I've eaten in London), and the waiters were very kind. It was hard to find a bad thing to say about the place, but it was a pricy dinner (the bill for a party of 4, no drinks and no starters, came at about £160)... We are sure to come back

German Gymnasium is a good looking spot to have dinner. It has a luxury view and has nice furniture. The food was okey. For someone who is traveling a lot to germany and austria I can say the food is okey. The German Gymnasium has a good assortiment of wine. The service however was poor for a restaurant that pretends to be a top restaurant. One of our first course meals was forgotten, the waiter didn’t ask for a dessert and we had to ask for another drink instead of being asked. They charged 13,5% additional service fee over the bill which wasn’t in proportion for the delivered service. It’s an okey spot to have dinner, but you can find better spots with the same atmosphere and luxury furniture.
