We attended the NYE dinner with high expectations, but unfortunately, our experience left us with mixed feelings. The food was overall good, with the main dish and dessert being particularly exquisite. However, we found the entrée to be quite small and limited (the shrimps salad), which didn’t align with the quality of the other courses. The primary issue we encountered was with the service. We had reserved a table for the entire evening, with the understanding that it would be available to us throughout the night. However, as we were nearing the end of our dinner, one of the waitresses informed us that we would need to move to another area as they needed the table for the next service. I explained that, according to our booking agreement, the table was reserved for us all night, (we were seated on the upper floor). The waitress mentioned she would speak with the manager, but unfortunately, we never received any follow-up or resolution, leaving us confused and a bit uncomfortable. Additionally, we found that the staff was not particularly friendly, and some interactions felt rather curt. For instance, when we arrived, we were not offered the option to leave our coats in the cloakroom, which would have been a nice touch for a NYE dinner. While this may seem like a minor detail, it’s these small touches that can elevate the overall experience especially in such a competitive night as NYE. Another disappointment was with the live music. The live music didn’t start until we were already halfway through our dinner, and it wasn’t continuous. Instead, it was played in bursts, with long periods of silence during the evening. Given that the live music was highlighted in the restaurant’s offerings, we had expected it to be a consistent part of the experience from the start of dinner but that was not the case. Overall, while it was a positive experience, we had anticipated a more seamless and polished experience for NYE dinner.

The restaurant is located in a beautifully preserved building in Kings Cross... The European-style food was absolutely delicious (and one of the tastiest schnitzels I've eaten in London), and the waiters were very kind. It was hard to find a bad thing to say about the place, but it was a pricy dinner (the bill for a party of 4, no drinks and no starters, came at about £160)... We are sure to come back

German Gymnasium is a good looking spot to have dinner. It has a luxury view and has nice furniture. The food was okey. For someone who is traveling a lot to germany and austria I can say the food is okey. The German Gymnasium has a good assortiment of wine. The service however was poor for a restaurant that pretends to be a top restaurant. One of our first course meals was forgotten, the waiter didn’t ask for a dessert and we had to ask for another drink instead of being asked. They charged 13,5% additional service fee over the bill which wasn’t in proportion for the delivered service. It’s an okey spot to have dinner, but you can find better spots with the same atmosphere and luxury furniture.

Overall we were glad we went. Christmas means the prices were high thus the rating. Food was very good. Turkey dinner flavour excellent, presentation three stars. Desert could have been better. Plum tart was cold and doughy. Service and ambiance were good. The rest of the meal excellent. Considering we were there near the end of the day on Christmas, the staff did an excellent job. Thank you.

Really appreciate all the staff for their christmas service and the food was really great. However, for the price of their christmas meal (£125pp), we did expect better service. No one came to introduce the menu or order water/drinks for a good amount of time despite us being one of the few tables there earlier tonight. We poured all the water and three bottles of wine ourselves. So yes, wasn’t impressed because of the price and the fact that the staff were simply doing their job but nothing much beyond. But was a good night, thanks for accommodating us on christmas night. Hope the staff had a restful night after.

Dear Michelle, Thank you for choosing us for your Christmas meal and I'm sorry to hear that the service let the experience down. We will take this on board and provide more training to the team members that might need it. I'm glad you enjoyed the food and aside the service- had a good night. We hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to German Gymnasium. Warm Regards, Jo & GG Team
