Walk-in's always welcome! Screen Door is a restaurant that presents itself as a love letter to the American South and the revival of regional cooking. Each day, the restaurant receives natural, local organic meats and produce from nearby vendors. The inclusion of regional Pacific Northwest ingredients into a menu of dishes developed in the south has created a unique flavor profile in Screen Door's menu. Many of Screen Doors dishes draw their inspiration from Louisiana and the Cajun cooking that's found there. These include our world-famous fried chicken, Lowcountry shrimp and grits, smoked andouille chicken gumbo and fried okra. Other items, like the house-smoked beef brisket and braised pork shoulder, come straight from the state of Texas. The rest of the South is well represented as well with a Carolina pulled pork sandwich, chicken and waffles, crispy fried oysters and a pimiento cheese & sausage biscuit sandwich with a fried egg and cheddar grits.

Enjoy perfectly charred 28-day dry-aged ribeye, grilled octopus with chorizo, housemade piquillo pepper and pork empanadas, slow roasted lechon, refreshing ceviches and smoked bone marrow.Executive Chef Jaco Smith consistently pushes the boundaries on traditional Latin fare by incorporating wood-fired flavors into his cuisine while boasting a view of the Willamette River that few Portland restaurants can offer. Smith comes from a large family of cattle, sheep and grain farmers. He started cooking at a young age in his mother’s kitchen. His favorite childhood memories include the tastes of dulce de leche, flan and grilled breads, reminiscent of South American flavors and commonly found on South African kitchen tables.

We’ve always had a great experience at Nostrana, and love to celebrate special occasions there. Ensalata Nostrana and Pizza with extra fixings are a great standby; last night we got the Papardelle as well, so good! Excellent wine list and the Tiramisu is a perfect way to end the meal.

Seriously, one of the best restaurant meals I’ve ever had. We shared apps, small plates, and entrees, (plus a couple desserts) and I can’t tell you what was the best dish, or even the top 2 or 3. All were wonderful. Need a complaint? The wine was so-so and the guys at the next table wore smelly cologne. But the food was imaginative, dynamic and delicious. Star anise in onion soup. A new requirement in my house!

Always an amazing experience at Janken. The server knew her stuff and helped us order the adequate amount for our party of six. The drinks were delicious. The place was packed and we all could easily hear each other. This is a must go to place in Portland.

The food was top-notch, and the wait was quite reasonable. The focaccia was truly the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot of focaccia. I would return just for the focaccia. The waiter was great. Not a noise factory, nice ambience, nice staff. One thing: since they no longer serve pizza, they shouldn’t say on their window that they have pizza.
