Best Sunday Lunch Restaurants in Kensington

Burrell is lovely. We enjoyed the mushroom and sunchoke main, and the black cod, although the delicacy of the black cod oyster chowder was over powered by the earthy umami of the mushroom dish. Should have asked our server about the combo. corn bread amazing as always. waffle and chicken liver was the hit of the night. The fried cauliflower and broccoli was decent. Not the best. We were full by the time our mains came! Wish we would have saved room for desert!

I can’t think of a single thing bad to say about the black cod I ordered. It was perfectly prepared. It was absolutely perfect with a glass of Sancerre. Attentive easy-going wait staff. I will return just for that dish again. Thank you!

The food was delicious and eating outside across from Lake Merritt is a pleasure! The avocado toast (with a generous serving of green salad) was beautifully prepared, as was the pastrami benedict that my partner ate (unlike many we've had, it was not drowned in hollandaise sauce but simply topped with it). My only reservation was about the eggs on the avo toast. I asked the server to make sure the yolks were "not runny." She wrote down and repeated the instruction. But when they arrived, they were totally runny. She offered to get me a scrambled egg instead - which arrived perfectly prepared. But then I was charged for it. I think if the kitchen makes an error they need to make good on it, without additional charge. Other than that, it was a wonderful meal.

What a gem! Excellent service, calm ambiance allowed the dining experience to shine. The food was presented so beautifully and simply that the dining experience was a treat.

Food was excellent and being able to choose a “set” was very unique! Our server seemed pretty annoyed with us for whatever reason and we didn’t feel very welcomed the whole time we were there - maybe it was just an off day for them!
