Located in the heart of the Goodwood Estate and surrounded by the South Downs National Park, The Star & Garter in East Dean offers a delicious selection of freshly cooked, local and seasonal food in a charming dining space with red brick and oak beams. Just a mile down the hill from Goodwood Race Course we are 12 minutes drive from Chichester. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner we try to source our ingredients as locally and as seasonally as possible. Whether you are at a Goodwood Event or walking, cycling or just out for a drive and fancy a decent meal at reasonable prices, we like to think we are one of the best around. We have a great courtyard and garden space which can seat up to 100 people. Freshly ground coffee is available all day. With a mixture of local people and tourists there's always a warm welcome here.

"Amberley Castle has a long held reputation for delivering outstanding cuisine.Enjoyed on the first floor of the castle in either the magnificent Queen's Room, with its barrel-vaulted ceiling dating back to the 12th century and open fire or The Great Room, built-in 1165 by Bishop Luffa of Chichester, a fine example of Norman architecture with its high lancet windows, open fireplace, oak flooring, tapestry and suits of armour.The dress code for the dining room is smart casual.     We have been to The Three Horseshoes a few times now and always enjoyed great food, lovely service and a classically smart pub atmosphere, with log fires in winter and a sunny terrace in summer. An understandably shortish menu still manages to blend excellent pub food staples with a handful of more innovative starters and mains. There are also several delicious bar snacks to enjoy while deciding on bigger dishes from the menu. If we lived closer we would undoubtedly make our occasional visits more regular.

    This is the second time we have visited for lunch, and one again 5 star, the service and menus were excellent. We would book more often but we live 50 minutes to the north,and the guest we meet are driving 50 minutes from the southwest. Will definitely book again ina couple of months

    We arrived towards the end of afternoon tea service, and although we had booked we had to wait about 10-15 minutes for acknowledgement of our arrival in the lounge. The service was excellent, with a clear explanation of all the food we received. All the food was delicious. The noise level was quiet, but only because we chose a quiet lounge (no music) and asked for the door to be closed.

    Really delicious Sunday lunch. The set menu features roasts and also dishes from their a la carte menu making it very good value indeed. Excellent service in a very old oak beamed building of great charm. Our only issue was that it is not easy to find - satnav told us "you have arrived at your destination" but we couldn't see it. For your information it is a couple of hundred yards from the Esso station travelling west on the A27, stay on the small slip road...Even if you do have trouble finding it, believe me, it is worth the effort! We shall return.

    This isn’t the first time we’ve visited. We went back because it was so good. This time was a little different. The rugby was on it was early evening and it was so loud. The menu was also different and not so many options. The food was ok but nothing special. Service was good tho same lovely chap with witty jokes
