The Winding Stair Bookshop & Café became a famous Dublin landmark in the 1970s and 1980s. Named after the Yeats poem and in honour of its winding staircase, it is overlooking the river Liffey, with an iconic view of the Ha'penny bridge. As a popular meeting place for writers, musicians and artists, it was a well known hub for debate and creativity with many poems written, novels penned and movies shot within its walls. In 2006, Elaine Murphy brought this much-loved spot back to life as a restaurant, championing seasonal, Irish produce. The bookshop, located on the ground floor, was retained, as were many of the old bookshelves, photos and memories. The room retains its timeless charm with stripped wood tables and floors, and Bentwood café chairs.The view remains as quintessentially Dublin as ever.The food is good, old-fashioned home cooking, with produce sourced from artisans within the island. Fabulous place to eat. We were sat beside where they make the pasta. Such a cool experience getting to watch it being made fresh. The food itself was amazing. Each dish did not let me down. Our main was the venison ragu and it was so tender. Would highly recommend. Staff were fantastic. Explained everything perfectly, we’re kind and courteous.

The lunch menu was very limited. The only proper meals on offer were chicken burger or fish & chips. The rest of the menu was made up avo eggs, granola, soup, salad and sandwiches. A bit disappointing as this was a Christmas lunch meet. We had the fish & chips, the hake had a lovely light tempura batter which was delicious, chips were tasty but the tartar sauce was a bit light on the capers which made it creamy rather than tangy. It really needed a side as the portion was small. We had the sticky toffee pudding and cheese plate. Sticky toffee was a little dry but had good flavour but there was no toffee sauce!! Service was good

Booked a table for four and I was the first there. Hostess was really welcoming and friendly. Next person along I got talking about brewing and beer. Needed out on 90 shilling and Arthur's Last Ale. Great drink and food. Would recommend. My 4th Christmas in a row and each year gets better.

We had a fabulous evening the only comment I would make is that it was very quiet with only a few tables taken but I understand the accommodation on site was booked out by a large group who were having dinner in a separate room - but the overall experience could not have been more perfect Thank you for a lovely evening !
