Best Seasonal Restaurants in College Area

Best French onion soup in California, just fantastic. Excellent roast duck breast in huckleberry sauce with Swiss chard gratin, tremendous. Seafood cannelloni overpowered by tarragon, the herb not mentioned in the menu description — in a sign of truly great service, when my wife could not eat it the restaurant offered an alternative and did not charge for the dish. Truly superb Grand Marnier soufflé for dessert. Good wine list w mix of French and California wines. This is a great restaurant! 

We had an excellent experience for our anniversary dinner. We were greeted with glasses of champagne. The focaccia with eggplant caponata and carpaccio were wonderful starters. For our mains, we had the agnolotti with braised beef short ribs and the lasagna. Both were delicious. We will return soon to try more items on the menu.

Had a phenomenal time at Mothership! A few friends who are super-passionate about tiki had spoken of the bar a few times to me, so we made it a point to get there on a Christmas trip to San Diego. The ambience is incredible--tiki meets techie--and the drinks are outstanding and inventive takes on a lot of tiki classics. Our bartender, Alfred, was phenomenally attentive and provided a great window into all the drinks available as well as the thinking behind their development. The food is outstanding, too! The attention paid to even the smallest details here is truly world-class. Can't wait for our next trip!

I wasn't sure what to expect an Christmas Eve. I once again chose one of the specials- Stuffed Seabass. The food was excellent as usual. But what surprised me was how well the chaos was organized. It was crazy busy but every patron was taken care of with a smile, expediency, and efficiency. My honey and I were led (at our reservation time, not late) to a tucked away corner where we could enjoy our meal without shouting at each other. This is a great restaurant to celebrate holidays, special occasions or any regular day.

Service was spectacular! Also the seasonal menu is so well executed. The food comes out exactly as described in the menu and tastes great. I really have no complaints other than, if you’re trying to catch up with friends it’s a tad bit noisy for table conversation.
