Best Lunch Restaurants in U Village / U District

We come here regularly because we always like the atmosphere, food quality and excellent service. We brought 4 out of town guests for dinner yesterday. One of my guests has a severe dairy sensitivity. The staff was extremely conscientious and attentive in reviewing what the kitchen could do to accommodate her including ensuring all requested dishes were both dairy free as well as having no risk of cross-contamination. This is a very important consideration for those with food sensitivity. The execution was great. I had the lamb shank which was huge and delicious. Our guests had a wonderful (and uneventful) meal. We had a delicious dinner consisting of local food including roasted sturgeon, duck ragu and mushroom gnocchi—definitely not what you would consider PNW standards. That’s what makes this place so incredibly special. This restaurant is the quiet and singular alternative to the many corporate/chain-owned restaurants you find everywhere in Seattle. A gem.

Beautiful anytime of year but especially wondrous during the holidays. The staff is kind and friendly and Queen Mary herself checks in on the guests to ensure everyone is enjoying their tea. We live in LA but anytime we come up to Seattle, Queen Mary is a must visit!

Superb, as usual. The carrot sformato was an unusual find and quite delicious. The addition of olives to the blood orange and fennel salad hit just the right acid note, Mama’s meatballs were pure beef with a strong dash of anise seed, and the accompanying marinara had been simmering for ages to pick up that deep complexity of flavors and great balance between sweet and slightly acid.

I celebrated my birthday with a group of friends and was impressed with the service we received on such a busy night. Everything came out in a timely manner, no drink orders had to be repeated more than once, I had a very nice time and I can thank the service for that. It was incredibly busy and we still were helped with anything we needed. I always love and recommend Joey.
