Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution. It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers.     Everything was perfect from entering the door to leaving. I made a quick note that I was reserving a table for a date, and we were brought to the table with fresh flowers in a cute little vase. A gift from the manager. I had to watch for gluten and the waitress, the chef, and the manager made sure that we both had a comfortable experience. At the end fresh chocolate covered strawberries were brought out to us. It made this first date experience truly memorable and I will definitely be back, even though it is a 40 minute drive and there are closer locations. Thank you for everything and a dinner we will always remember.

    Good food as always. Portion size has decreased noticeably since our last visit. Used to be able to order family style and take home plenty of leftovers. Not anymore! Entree for $24 only enough for one person. Glad we got an appetizer. By the way, shrimp dumplings are delicious.
