Ospi is the sophomore restaurant of Jackson & Melissa Kalb, focused on Southern Italian cooking and way of life. The name derives from ospitante (“host” in Italian), with the expectation that guests will feel as comfortable at Ospi as they would at a friend’s dinner party. There will be plenty of house-made pastas as well as an expanded offering of pizzas. The beverage program crafted by Kalb features mostly Californian and Southern Italian wines and a full bar with a special negroni section. The experience was amazing. Starting with Juliana’s recommendations for the special options of the day, Steak Tacos and Burguer. Tacos was incredible, tortillas velvety and tasty, meat soft. Burguer exquisite, jam outstanding.

The food was delicious. I had a cheeseburger and my friend had the lobster bisque. We stayed inside since it was chilly outside. It was also chilly in the restaurant as well. Service was great!

Having grown up in the restaurant biz and after running one of the most successful joints in town, I must say, THIS might be one of the most quintessential places in all of Southern CA. Makai (sp?)greeted us like we were family. Can’t wait to come back.
