Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution. It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers. All the while, the tavern continued to provide food, shelter and cheer to the hungry, weary soldiers fighting for their independence. Today, we honor our historic tavern’s tradition with a mission to raise the spirits of our guests. We invite you to experience the small and large plates, craft beers and revolutionary hospitality that is Black Powder Tavern.

    Frequent diner and will continue to go back. Service can vary extensively. Over the years it’s has seemed the most “off” during the holiday season and the latest trip showed no improvement there. Drinks and food service incredibly slow, despite the restaurant not seeming terribly chaotic on a Tuesday in December. Pricing is disproportionately high for the area and continues to outpace average at a best service and dining experience.

    This place is absolutely stunning!!!! Very warming, nice atmosphere Amazing food!!!! The steak, Mac and Cheese, cream brûlée, asparagus, potatoes were absolutely amazing!!!!     Greeters were personable and attentive. Stopped at the bar to wait for the rest of my party and bartenders were busy but handled it well and were polite and fast. Table was set nicely and our server came soon to offer menus and options. Service throughout was prompt but unobtrusive. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the history. Food was very good and portions were generous. I plan to go back!
