The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. As always a good experience and excellent food, prices are up a little from the last time. However the price being up is to be expected verses other places adding a hidden service charge. This also allows for us to tip accordingly. Staff was friendly, prompt, and worked as a team with others.

The FireLake Grill House offers a varied menu and I appreciate that the ingredients locally sourced. We enjoyed the short ribs, walleye and duck which were all fantastic! The only disappointment was that the popovers were overdone. The specialty cocktails and desserts were excellent! We enjoyed a lovely dinner in an elegant yet relaxed venue.

This is a very underrated breakfast experience in the Twin Cities. You can park for free with a validation and have a very quiet, mellow brunch with a breakfast cocktail and not get the side-eye on a weekday morning. I work overnights and 72 hour shifts. It’s really a treat to go here to decompress in a benign space after an extended shift. The food is superlative, French inspired; indulgent, but not gutbusting. The waitstaff are outstanding and top-notch. Kind of hate to share this review because it’s my secret!
