Sète (named after the coastal town in France) is a wine bar, shop, and kitchen. Our doors opened to the wine bar in October 2022 and the restaurant and garden in July 2023. The seasonal menu focuses on modern European cooking with a heavy French influence, highlighting the best produce Kent has to offer. Wine is certainly at the heart of what we love. With an ever evolving list that highlights old world classics, accessible natural wines, female winemakers and exciting next generation vintners. We also serve a seasonally changing list of wine on tap and host private tastings. Behind Sète is Natalia Ribbe who has worked across restaurants in Vienna, NYC and London, as well as the founder of the female collective; L.O.R. In the kitchen is Head Chef Billy Stock who joins us from The Rose Inn in Wickembraux, St. John, The Marksman and Rochelle at the ICA to name a few. Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails. On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. This is such a lovely place to meet and eat, staff are always amazing, the food is outstanding, and everywhere spotless with such attention to detail, and incredible sea views. Our favourite go to place on the coast whether just a day out or a special occasion. Thanks as always for a great afternoon.

Yet another fantastic meal at Quince. After delightful starters of lamb and date patewith toast and date chutney and fish croquettes on to the magnificent main course. Coq-au-van so perfect the meat fell off the bone. Wonderful sauce with a perfect accompaniment of roast sprouts and lovely greens. My wife had mackerel with buttered spinach and other great tasting items to balance the dish. We added some Lyonnaise potatoes as the potatoes are always good. Dessert, oh what a desert! Think treacle tart but made with honey with a touch of ipa. The pastry was so crisp and we just loved it. It was accompanied with a little crème fresh. A delightful wine made the meal even more perfect. The chefs can be seen hard at work and the results are stunning. Such perfect staff looking after us. Nothing is any trouble and they are so well informed about the food and so friendly. Don’t wince, go to Quince.

We went recently on a Sunday with our two children, two friends and their toddler. The staff were helpful and accommodating, the roast was fantastic and the ambience was lovely - they had a pianist playing. Will definitely return.
